The energy industry in Thailand
Thailand is the 29th largest oil producer in the world and 6th largest in Asia, an impressive achievement given it only started extracting the oil in 1980. The main oil producer in the country is Chevron, who run the country’s largest oil field, Benjamas. The country also generates about 10% of its’ electricity from renewable sources, with solar being the main source. In terms of consumption, about 15% of the energy used is renewable. Thailand also has a small, but significant, mining sector that produces mainly gold, silver, iron, zinc, limestone, gypsum and basalt.
