Power generation is the operation of generating electric power from other sources of primary energy. Electricity is largely generated at power plants by electromechanical generators and primarily driven by heat engines fuelled by chemical combustion or nuclear fission but also by other means such as wind, water, solar and geothermal power. The electric power industry is split up into four processes; electricity generation such as power stations, electric power transmission, electricity distribution, and electricity retailing. In numerous countries, electric power companies also own the full infrastructure from generating stations to transmission and distribution infrastructure. Around 10% of the world's electricity is generated globally by about 440 nuclear power reactors and with 50 more reactors are under construction (equivalent to approximately 15% of existing capacity), this is a great area when it comes to job opportunities.
