The energy industry in Oman
Oman is the 19th largest oil-producing nation in the world with the countries production largely controlled by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply and has formed partnerships with various international oil companies. The country also possesses the largest oil reserves of any non-OPEC country in the Middle East and significant reserves of natural gas. The natural gas industry also recently was boosted by BP committing to invest US$16 Billion to develop the Khazzan-Makarem gas field. Although the renewable energy sector is relatively new in the country, it has a huge opportunity to utilize solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal energies.
