The energy industry in Norway
Uniquely positioned for access to the North Sea, Norway has become one of the leading producers of Oil and Gas in Europe since oil was discovered there in the 1960s. Norway is a large exporter of both crude oil, refined oil and natural gas and is now the 15th largest producer. However, they have also been very proactive in the renewable energy sector with nearly all of its’ electricity being generated from hydroelectric power plants. Not only does this combination of domestic renewable energy production and oil exports help support the Norwegian economy, it also has created an excellent employment market for the energy sector.
