The energy industry in the Netherlands
Although the Netherlands does produce oil, particularly in the Groningen gas field, it ranks 57th in the world in terms of barrels produced per day and is a relatively small player in regards to domestic production. When it comes to renewables, just under 20% of the country’s energy consumption is from renewable sources though less than 8% of the energy it produces is. Despite these relatively small numbers, due to the presence of the head offices of Royal Dutch Shell in the country, as well as the country historically being quite strong in the renewables market, there are plenty of energy related job opportunities in the Netherlands.
