The energy industry in Libya
Libya, a member of OPEC, has the largest oil reserves in Africa and 10th largest globally though this has historically been under-explored due to sanctions and political turmoil. This has recently caused the large oil fields of Sharara and the El-Feel deposit to both close at various points in 2020. However, with such large reserves and a very low cost of production, there is huge potential for the sector in the country. Libya also has a significant mining industry, mainly focused around raw materials such as cement, limestone, clay and salt.
