Based out of India, which is a strategic growth hub for Shell, you'll be a global, senior leader in the Learning & Development organization, which is headed by our Chief Learning Officer, includes a mature Knowledge Management practice and forms part of the larger Talent, Learning & Leadership organization. Specifically, you'll own Shell IT's strategic Learning agenda, running a sizeable team to ensure we build differentiated, competitive, and fit-for-the-future IT capabilities. As a leader in the Learning organization, you will have an opportunity to engage with Businesses and Functions across Shell, manage a significant budget, lead a large internal and external team of Learning professionals, participate and present in external conferences, explore the latest developments in Learning and Learning technologies and drive a true performance culture. As one of the few senior Learning leaders based out of India, you will also have an opportunity to shape the brand of Shell Learning in India, help build the India hub, and coach and mentor those new to Learning.

What's the role

As Senior, Global Head of Learning for IT, you are expected to:
  • Bring their existing experience in Learning to enhance our ability to deliver even stronger impact to Business.
  • Enable max value delivery by focusing on impactful learning and KM interventions for our different businesses at competitive cost, informed by our Powering Progress strategy, external commitments, and benchmarking.
  • Ensure clarity of outcomes by aligning solutions and interventions with our integrated people strategy, backed by well-defined KPIs that measure delivery and efficiency.
  • Identify areas of high value, where we need to differentiate and / or invest.
  • Identify activities of low value which should stop.
  • Proactively address opportunities to improve and optimize.
  • Make clear organizational choices on intimacy, efficacy, efficiency, and capability, recognizing the choices and tradeoffs, which will change over time.
  • Be informed externally by what others do and technological advancements.
  • Be able to deliver and balance continuous improvement (getting better every year) and more transformation elements.
  • Be clear on pace - so we can make choices of how much and when.
  • Proactively partner within the HR model to shape, integrate and drive workforce optimization, via strategic capability building within respective IT Functional People Strategies.
  • Build effective partnerships with the IT Function to gain inputs and feedback on capability building priorities, solutions, and outcomes.
  • Deliver Learning & KM priorities and plans that efficiently and effectively deliver against targets, balancing Business outcomes with Learning organizational excellence.
  • Drive simplification and optimization of Learning & KM solutions together with peers to maximize value and impact for Shell at an enterprise level.
  • Drive performance and functional excellence in delivery by maximizing uptake of available services, differentiating for value in support levels, and ensuring fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Manage Learning budget, optimizing enterprise impact and commercial value from Learning spend in HR and Business/Function
  • Actively manage talent, capability building and knowledge and best practice sharing to create a highly engaged, high performing Learning community
  • Drive a Learning culture within the Businesses/Functions supported that encourages and rewards the right people to be doing the right learning at the right time.
  • Foster a data-driven culture that produces transparency and actionable insights on Learning & KM impact, enabling effective interventions and decisions in support of current and shape future goals.
  • Seek external best practices and drive innovation to deliver increased impact and value.
What we need from you
  • You will bring substantial experience to the table, either as a Learning/OD/Talent professional where you can apply your skills to building capability in the subject area or as an IT professional where your network and knowledge can add value; the ability to 'cross boundaries' and build up business knowledge or vice versa learning knowledge credibly and with speed will be critical
  • If you are an IT Technical Professional, you will have an extensive IT global network and are a recognized knowledge leader with a wide experience of geographies, projects and jobs that will bring credibility to the role. A willingness to learn about the profession of Learning is a must.
  • If you are a Learning Professional, alongside your professional expertise in strategic learning planning, performance consulting, needs analysis, build/borrow/buy, curation, change management, delivery, and measurement, you have good understanding of Shell businesses such that you can credibly engage with business stakeholders and can quickly learn their language. You must be willing to invest time to rapidly build a knowledge and a network in the relevant discipline/business/function.
  • As you will be a senior, global leader in this role, proven experience as a team leader is required and community leadership will be an advantage.
  • Learner (or growth) mindset and the ability to drive a performance culture through inspiring, engaging leadership are essential.
