About the job:

The successful candidate will report to the Electrical & Instrumentation Discipline Manager and will be assigned to various projects associated with the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals industry as directed by the Project Management group.

The candidate will possess a solid understanding of electrical design principles complemented by practical working experience with industrial power distribution systems within Oil and Gas processing facilities. The candidate is required to be a well-organized and effective communicator. The candidate will be able to work independently, lead a team of professionals (engineers and designers) and be effective when working in a team environment.

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Assigned as working design lead (sub-lead, area lead or project lead based on the size of the project) for greenfield, brownfield projects multiple sustaining capital projects, while still being able to take on design-related deliverables.
  • Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting to meet project goals/targets.
  • Establishing the scope of work, effort hour estimates and deliverable lists.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, motor schematics and wiring drawings.
  • Develop an electrical load list and electrical equipment list.
  • Develop electrical layouts such as cable tray, lighting, grounding, electrical aboveground and underground power, electrical area classification layouts and electrical room layouts.
  • Perform design calculations such as lighting, cable tray fill and cable sizing etc.
  • Develop electrical BOMs / MTOs.
  • Develop electrical cable Schedules and panel schedules.
  • Review, and checking of electrical drawings and documents prepared by other team members for code compliance, constructability, and project requirements.
  • Procurement support for electrical bulk items.
  • Perform heat tracing calculations and develop heat tracing deliverables such as EHT ISO, layouts, panel schedule, and controller set point schedule.
  • Review vendor designs for compliance with technical specifications and applicable standards.
  • Develop engineering work packages or Construction work packages.
  • Supervise and mentor the team members.
  • Attending project team meetings, Client meetings and vendor review meetings
  • Establishing a good working relationship with the Clients. Strong Client focus and ability to represent the company professionally.
  • Performing field visits to validate existing drawings and confirm tie-in locations.
  • Utilize the workshare office or HVEC (High-Value Engineering Center) to complete the electrical deliverables.
  • Assist electrical lead as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications/Skills Requirements:
  • Two-year diploma in electrical engineering from a recognized institution.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in the design of electrical distribution systems for Oil & Gas facilities.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
  • Experience in the EPC industry, leading the local and workshare team will be an asset.
  • Effective communication skills (Written and verbal).
  • Leadership skills, team player, proven multi-tasker with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with AVEVA E3D will be an asset.
