Candidate Profile

  • JD/LLM or Masters of Taxation preferred, 10+ years of US corporate tax experience with an in-house tax department of a major corporation, CPA firm (Big 4 preferred), large law firm or a combination thereof.
  • Project management skills required. ? Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate to executive level is critical
  • State income tax experience would be helpful

Activities

  • Must develop a working relationship with the CFOs and accounting managers for assigned affiliates and consult with the affiliates on a regular basis regarding the tax implications for various transactions.
  • Requires an ability to lead a project to completion - including new investments in the US.
  • Requires experience with and understanding of deferred tax rules.
  • Frequent Interaction with a variety of departments and businesses, sometimes outside of US.
  • The individual should have knowledge of tax law and accounting, including experience with consolidated, multi-entity tax returns.
  • Typically, there are many ongoing initiatives with multiple deadlines and very short turnaround.
  • Assisting in coordinating with external tax advisors and service providers to deliver needed services.
  • High level analysis of complex business operations and industry specific tax issues for all branch activities: Renewable Energies, Trading and Shipping, Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, Refining and Petrochemicals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • High level decision making regarding tax research, planning, and modeling of tax implications with respect to internal reorganizations, acquisitions, and dispositions. Evaluate and recommend structures/alternatives for proposed transactions (mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, inter-company transfers, etc.).
  • High level decision making regarding research projects and drafting position papers in support of tax positions taken on federal and/or state returns, including tax controversy projects.
  • Partnership tax experience is preferred.
  • Managing responses to information and document requests from IRS and state auditors.
  • This person should provide tax technical leadership by keeping abreast of changes in the federal (and material state and international) tax laws.
  • Performing high level analysis of material uncertain tax positions, ensure adequate documentation.
  • Reviewing cash tax forecast and projections from long-term plans and recommend tax mitigation strategies. (e.g., BEAT, Section 163(j), etc.).
  • Planning and research for issues and transactions that impact the US affiliates and the global effective tax rate.
  • Formulating and presenting tax advice to upper management regarding IRS audit issues and proposed transactions involving US legal structures and investments.
  • Identifying cost saving opportunities in terms of tax optimization or process improvements.
  • Participating in staff development and knowledge transfer.
