JOB TITLE: Financial Controller

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • General Ledger
  • Responsible for the integrity and robustness of all GL Reporting to all stakeholders for the Asset Solutions West Service Line
  • Acting as the Business Units first line of defence (1LD) for all General Ledger submissions, be it to Group, Finance VP, Finance Director, Auditors, etc
  • Ensure accurate financial results in line with reporting deadlines for group
  • Manage the reporting timetable across the AS West Service Line to ensure all information submitted on time to allow consolidation and full review ahead of meeting group deadlines
  • Review and Approval of month end journals
  • Responsible for the Bonus provision accruals and reconciliations monthly, to align with Group
  • Provide support and assistance on tax, backlog and insurance to finance teams as required
  • Assist auditors both internal and external in any reviews
  • Preparation of adhoc information requests from group
  • Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting and collection procedures, and investment activities, and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial reporting functions
  • Treasury/Cash Reporting
  • Responsible for the integrity and robustness of all Treasury/Cash Reporting to all stakeholders for the Asset Solutions Business Unit
  • Acting as the Business Units first line of defence (1LD) for all Cash Reporting submissions - actual, budget & forecast
  • Working closely with Group Finance on all reporting requirements and adhoc requests
  • Assisting FD with managing overall cashflow weekly, including working with Ap and Treasury teams across AS to ensure full visibility and sign off ahead of any payments being made
  • Monthly reconciliation of AS Working Capital and Cash for Group Reporting, using FCC and planning tools
  • General Finance
  • Provide technical accounting support to all in the Finance Department
  • Responsibility for ensuring all IFRS accounting memos to support accounting treatments are prepared and reviewed at half year and year end and ensure adhering to all Group Accounting Policies
  • New Country Entry management, looking at setting up processes across all Finance streams to make this process more streamlined and supporting the business across all streams
  • Responsibility for all finance related matters related to AS expansion into Africa and supporting the set up across multiple entities
  • Support other business units who use PFM as the legal vehicle for trade, ensuring their reporting is aligned to PFM ledgers and they follow suitable processes for trading through PFM
  • Work with Group functions on complex issues as required (e.g. Tax losses and optimisation of deferred tax asset)
  • Keep abreast of laws and regulations that apply to Finance to maintain up-to-date compliance
  • Actively collaborating closely with the Business Unit Finance Director, VP, Group Finance and AS COO
  • Link between FP&A and wider Finance Team, to ensure better collaboration across the As west Finance Team
  • Systems & Processes
  • Work alongside the BAU ERP System team to continuously improve the ERP system processes, controls and reports.
  • Support the creation of end to end process across Finance and wider business
  • Develop improved and streamlined processes, implementing RPA where applicable and improving automation in reporting to allow team to focus on value added work
  • Maximise the efficiency of reporting and budgeting processes including reports used in Oracle, ensuring the cost of meeting our reporting requirements is minimised
  • Support business improvement initiatives across the business and the finance function
  • Management and development of staff
  • Management of a large team of Senior management accountants and support staff, identifying priorities and directing their activities
  • Supporting the team in Australia as required
  • Develop staff through training, wider exposure to the business and cross training
  • Mentoring of members of department going through professional studies
  • Other Stakeholders
  • Performs any other duties as and when required by Finance and Commercial Functions - VP Finance, Finance Director, Group Finance and Commercial Leadership
  • Performs any other duties as and when required by the Asset Solutions Leadership Team
  • Reporting accurately to group for a business with annual turnover of over $850M
  • Responsible for the accurate reporting of the AS West Balance Sheet with over $300M of assets and over $300M of liabilities
  • Responsible for first line of defence on all finance compliance activities ensuring we meet financial and tax reporting requirements
  • Work with internal, external and customer auditors to review the accuracy and completeness of reporting and balance sheets
  • Cope with rapid decision making in a high pressured situation
  • Must be able to influence others to follow processes and provide the necessary inputs to allow the efficient reporting of results
  • Must be able to investigate reconciling items in both the balance sheet and the GL to projects rec and address route causes and ensure items constantly reviewed and cleared off the balance sheet.
  • Must be able to use own initiative to assist with new country entry or to establish compliance requirements in countries we currently operate in.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Chartered Accountant
  • At least 4-5 years relevant experience
  • Oracle
  • Hyperion Financial Management
  • Excel
  • Reporting writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively with all areas of the business and to communicate with colleagues, and build effective relationships
  • Ability to critically analyse current work methods and suggest and rapidly implement successful change
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English
  • As the position is responsible for a large number of staff, strong people skills are required to ensure the team are motivated, efficiently utilised and adequately coached and mentored.
  • Ability to work effectively with all areas of the business and to communicate with colleagues, and build effective relationships
  • Ability to critically analyse current work methods and suggest and rapidly implement successful change
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English
  • As the position is responsible for a large number of staff, strong people skills are required to ensure the team are motivated, efficiently utilised and adequately coached and mentored
