Position Summary

As the New Product Development (NPD) Manager in the Product Development organization, you are essential for ensuring optimal efficiency and quality of delivery from the engineers in the new product development group. You will be a coach, building bridges and smoothing interfaces between the different engineering disciplines. In this role you will have the opportunity to develop the organizational capabilities that are vital for the future growth of Oceaneering Mobile Robotics.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL

• Develop, grow, and manage the new product development group including department process development, hiring, coaching, and personnel performance management.
• Allocate development engineering resources as requested to development projects, ensuring appropriate balance of the workload of individuals.
• Develop and support the development engineers through training, tool acquisition/development, or contracting external support where needed.
• Create and maintain a culture of teamwork and ownership.
• Act as mentor to development leads on how to maximize performance from their assigned teams.
• Champion technical governance and risk management; participate in design reviews and keep engineers sharp on keeping the wider context in mind when designing.
• Own Engineering Change Management Process.
• Foster KISS principles and a data(fact)-driven approach to engineering.
• Propose and lead continuous improvement efforts for the department.
• Responsible for yearly budget proposal and departmental plan.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Ensure that the Safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to so far as is reasonably practicable to ensure a safe working environment.
• Carry out work in accordance with the Company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems.
• Perform the assigned tasks with due diligence regarding the Integrated Management Systems on the Company.
• Eliminate waste of whatever form, to suggest the use of more environmentally friendly substances and practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the environment.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics / Electromechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline with appropriate experience.
• Over 8 years' product development experience.
• Systems thinker, able to consider design problems from a wider context of lifecycle and organizational dependencies.
• Experience with development of complex products of medium volume (up to 10,000 units/year) containing mechanical, electrical, and software components.
• Excellent understanding of the product development lifecycle including governance processes (stage-gate, design reviews etc.), able to synchronize software and hardware development cycles.
• Good overall knowledge of Engineering IT systems (e.g., PLM, PDM) and how to structure and flow data from engineering to other stakeholders e.g., SCM, manufacturing, suppliers.
• A track record of coaching and developing teams for maximum performance.
• Experience with creating structure and building organizations from the ground-up.
• Experience with developing / creating Quality Management System content (processes, work instructions, training)
• Experience in complying with European Product Safety Directives: e.g., Machinery, LVD, EMC etc.
• Experience in analyzing and interpreting data.
• Experience in managing risk through design FMEAs, early prototyping/mockups.

DESIRED

• Systems Engineering certification.
• Design for Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
• Functional safety certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

• Good working knowledge of functional safety and safety risk assessments.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

Additional Information

This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.
