What's the role?

The OGE assets are technically and commercially the more complex assets in Shell Upstream. The asset portfolio comprises the full range of lifecycle stages from exploration activities, greenfield and brownfield projects to abandonment activities. OGE comprises of 3 multidisciplinary sub-assets production units consisting of 1 onshore Gas Treatment plant at Den Helder and variety of manned and unmanned offshore platforms.

The role is for a Senior Control and Automation Engineer with suitable extensive experience to join our NL offshore (OneGas East, OGE) Control Automation Support Team (CAST). The successful candidate will act as owner of automation systems, networks, hardware and software in this area. The ability to deal with multiple issues and to work collaboratively with high sense of ownership is required. Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills are required, since there will be an expectation to develop skills in areas where experience is lacking. Shift coverage may be required for special events such as unit upset, startups and shutdowns. Off hours call-out support to troubleshoot and resolve system issues will be required occasionally.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will act as a Senior Control and Automation Engineer supporting OGE Operations through the care and custody of IT based operational assets, providing technical assurance and front-line maintenance. The core Industrial Automation Control System (IACS) are Yokogawa DCS and SIS systems, Siemens PCS 7, HIMA IPS and Schneider DCS Systems. The role will include taking responsibility for system reliability and up time.

You will be working - as part of a self-managed team within an agile organization and will work closely with other disciplines and functions and with third parties on all technical matters focusing on control system optimization, cyber security/resilience and IACS basic maintenance, support and hygiene.

Your role will involve delivering operational excellence in the fields of health and safety and operational system support through on time critical maintenance and modifications for IACS hosts and direct control room support.

You will also:
  • Support operations in case of start-up issues and fault finding after a trip
  • Apply specialized understanding of the total technical support area and systems within scope as well as interfaces with the business in order to implement system changes and processes
  • Support the maintenance or testing of functional safety sensors, end elements and (6 yearly) logic solvers tests
  • Advise internal stakeholders on topics related to defined area of responsibility
  • Ensure that alarm management initiatives are well supported and driven
  • Provide technical support to modifications & projects on all matters relating to the system design, selection, specification, construction, factory acceptance testing, commissioning and performance of equipment associated to the PCD
  • Support alarm management and maintenance through articulate suppression and inhibit support
  • Provide commercial input to all aspects of conceptual and detailed design and the purchase and the implementation of updates or upgrades
  • Work within a variety of well-defined procedures and practices

What we need from you
  • With technical diploma or relevant qualifications and or experience, you will have a Master level in DCS and ESD control system and management of network devices and hosts, ideally gained in the onshore/offshore oil and gas industry (for PAS01/2/3 and 4 and PC01/2/3)
  • You will have a good understanding of Windows/PLC/DCS based technologies (especially Yokogawa, Schneider and HIMA) on hardware and software system, communication networks, Rotating CMS/Bentley Nevada rotating systems and cyber security hygiene practices as they relate to oil and gas production facilities
  • HBO qualification in the Control & Automation discipline or equivalent in relevant topic with industry exposure and preferably "Functional Safety Engineer" qualification
  • High degree of personal independence and good verbal/written communication skills are essential. Considerable customer focus, inter-personal skills and commercial approach
  • Initiative, expertise and energy to identify, promote and contribute to a broad range of business opportunities
  • Applicants should have detailed knowledge of relevant Shell and industry standards within the Control & Automation discipline and quickly capable of finding, understanding and applying the relevant discipline standards
