What's the role?

As a Senior Inspection Engineer, you will develop, plan and supervise inspection related work with work scopes on pressure systems and equipment with responsibility for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks and pipework examination and relief valve re-certification.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Develop and implement long and short-term inspection plans and scopes for pressure equipment, storage tanks and relief valves
  • Execute & manage inspections in line with approved inspection plans. Review and analyse results of inspections executed by inspectors both in- and external visual as well as provided NDT reports by 3rd parties, assessing trends and ensure reporting in our 'Integrity Management System' (IMS) in accordance with IBMS (Inspection Body Management System requirements
  • Ensure inspection work executed is fully aligned with legal, the certified management system and ISO 17020 principles in support of maintaining the Inspection Body's Accreditation
  • Ensure Inspection databases are maintained and managed and ensure inspection relevant data for the user is recorded in SAP
  • Coach, supervise and monitor the performance of Inspectors - Monitor the execution of Inspection work scopes and associated NDT work
  • Apply Plan, Do, Check & Act for inspections in accordance with the requirements of the Inspection Body Management System (IBMS)
  • Responsible for production of RBI-plans. Manage expert groups as required to develop and maintain RBI plans
  • Monitor NDT contractor performance and provide feedback to support sustainable improvement when required
  • Develop, Review & Select procedures for the execution of Inspection work
  • Execute & supervise inspection work in line with the independence policy of the Independent Body
  • Execute & supervise inspection work in line with the Confidentiality, Independence, Impartiality, and Integrity (CIII) policy of the Inspection Body
  • Drive continuous improvement on application of 'new' inspection techniques and automation with a strong focus on value from data.
  • Act, always in accordance with the Shell Global and local HSE Rules, including the Life Saving Rules

Dimensions of the role

The Senior Inspection Engineer will report to the MMI Chapter Lead, with primary location to execute duties in Den Helder, the Netherlands, with a significant on-site presence as a preference. The role does not have any direct reports, however, provides indirect leadership to plant inspector with coaching provided to young engineers training in the field.

As Senior Inspection Engineer, you will drive collaboration between the engineering chapters and production units/assets in conjunction with the squad leads, where it is to be ensured that the longer terms vision of sustainable equipment performance in embedded in the day-to-day decision making. What we need from you
  • Technical BSc Degree in engineering
  • SKK Level II Certified or API equivalent
  • Significant experience working in the field of pressure equipment inspection, preferably in an independent body
  • Demonstrable experience in leading RBI studies and developing inspection supporting inspection scope for execution
  • NDT Certification Level II is an advantage
