Job Description

We are seeking a talented Senior Piping Materials Engineer to join our team and work on exciting energy transition, olefins, refinery, and petrochemical projects both domestically and internationally.

As a successful candidate, you will have previous experience and extensive knowledge in piping materials associated with oil and gas projects. You will be responsible for leading the development of piping materials selection, pipe class specification development, and piping material estimates to execute scopes of work through Pre FEED, FEED, and EPC projects.

You will be working independently in your field of expertise and have the opportunity to potentially travel globally. Our offices are located in Milton Keynes and London, and we offer a friendly and supportive work environment.

Reporting lines and interactions:

Hierarchically reports to: Engineering Manager

Operationally reports to: Discipline Lead Piping and Plant Layout Engineer, Project Lead Piping Engineer and Project Manager

Directly supervises: Piping Engineers

Key interactions (internally, externally):

Internally: Functional Managers, all engineering disciplines (such as Technology, Process, and Mechanical) and all non-engineering disciplines (such as project controls, procurement, construction and estimating).

Externally: clients, subcontractors, vendors, partners, authorities, licensors.

Responsibilities/Key Activities:

- Developing and delivering piping materials specifications and piping material class specifications for Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC projects in accordance with the project scope of work.
- Carrying out piping material take-offs and managing and controlling the bill of quantity of materials through all project phases for estimating and procurement activities.
- Developing piping material specifications and datasheets in accordance with relevant codes and standards applicable to the project (e.g., ASME, BS, NACE).
- Calculating and determining pipe wall thicknesses and flange ratings.
- Establishing piping branch tables.
- Developing and delivering valve datasheets.
- Developing and delivering technical specifications for the supply of piping.
- Developing and delivering piping material requisitions.
- Conducting technical bid evaluation and technical selection of vendors.
- Reviewing and checking vendor documentation to comply with project requirements.
- Providing input and assisting with the development of material selection diagrams.
- Developing welding, fabrication, and NDE procedures.
- Providing technical piping material expertise and recommendations to all associated parties on a project.
- Presenting and explaining technical issues to clients, vendors, and other project stakeholders in a clear and articulate manner.
- Adhering to discipline and corporate procedures, policies, and standards and providing feedback and further development where applicable for continuous improvement.
- Leading the execution of piping materials works in multi-office environments.
- Providing discipline input to project proposals.
- Preparing and checking engineering procedures and standards.
- Proficiently preparing and checking piping material specifications and index and detailed line classes, piping material take-offs, piping material bill of quantities, valve data sheets, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and material input for cost estimates.
- Providing input to construction sub-contracts and evaluating bids.
- Being available to travel in the UK and overseas for meetings, site visits, and inspections to meet project requirements.

Typical Background and Experience Required:

Must Have:
- A mechanical engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- Extensive experience in onshore piping materials for petrochemical plants.
- Demonstrated previous Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC experience.
- Detailed experience as a piping materials engineer.
- Experience in selection, development, and delivery of piping material specifications.
- Significant knowledge of piping material standards European, American, and International standards applicable to the petrochemical industry.
- Experience in performing material take-off either from model or from general arrangements.
- Experience in SMat and competent in the management and control of materials using SMat for the development of material estimates, requisitions, and procurement activities.
- Experience of developing specifications, procedures, work instructions.
- Strong communication skills include being tactful and articulate.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience of leading multi-office projects.
- Self-motivated to move projects forward.
- Experienced in Microsoft Office applications.

Nice to Have:
- Experience in using 2D CAD software Autocad and/or Microstation and production of 2D layout drawings.
- Experience in the use of 3D CAD software and 3D model development using E3D and S3D.
- Competent in carrying out stress calculations using industry-recognized software.
- Modularization experience.
- Membership of appropriate engineering institution.
- Site experience.
- UK project experience.
- Experience in energy transition projects.
