Vestas R&D -> Product Applications & Controls R&D -> Power SI Project Management

We are seeking a Program Manager to oversee the full project portfolio and the Project Managers in the Power System Integration (PSI) module within our R&D organization.

The energy transition from fossil-fuelled power plants to renewables poses significant and increasing challenges to the electrical power system in several countries. The PSI module is responsible for addressing the complexities of grid connection for our clients.
We handle the electrical design between the power grid and individual turbines, including the integration of various third-party Balance of Plant (BoP) components such as Solar, Energy Storage, and similar systems. Our main competencies are Electrical Engineers specializing in Control and Modelling.

The PSI Project Management department consists of 10 project managers located in Denmark, Portugal, and Chennai, responsible for a portfolio supporting 150 engineers and associated value chain organizations. This portfolio is a crucial element of Vestas' R&D investment, governed by a hybrid of Prince II Stage Gate Process and Agile Methods.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP of PSI, you will be responsible for both portfolio management and team oversight. The overall goal is to construct, balance, and implement the portfolio on agreed time, cost, and quality, managing changes with a "Best for Vestas" approach. Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Guide project managers through one-on-one dialogues, development plans, and target settings to ensure effective guidance and growth
  • Align approximately 25 R&D projects with the overall R&D strategy, ensuring each project contributes to the strategic goals of the organization
  • Prioritize projects based on business impact, resource availability, and cost, maintaining a balance between demand and organizational capacity to optimize project outcomes
  • Commence, authorize, and implement new projects within the sanctioned portfolio, ensuring that all initiatives are initiated and overseen efficiently
  • Manage and track OPEX and CAPEX budgets, ensuring financial resources are allocated efficiently and monitored throughout the project lifecycle
  • Evaluate risks and revise project strategies to alleviate likely problems and uphold project goals
  • Collaborate with stakeholders within and outside the organization to ensure robust communication and teamwork, while providing progress reports to facilitate the timely delivery of quality outcomes


Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in project management within an R&D organization. Certification like IPMA Level A or B is desirable
  • At least 5 years of people leadership experience, likely supported by some leadership education
  • A master's or bachelor's degree in business administration, Engineering, or a related field
  • Significant experience in overseeing diverse projects and collaborating with teams from different functions, possibly on an international scale
  • Proficient analytical skills and the ability to interpret and track complex data
  • Experience with various design processes like Prince II, SAFe, Scrum, Lean Product Development etc.
  • Good cultural understanding and international working experience and communication skills in English
