We have several positions available with our Mine Engineering and Mine Operations Team at our Base Mine in Fort McMurray. You will work closely with Professional Engineers, Engineers-in-Training and Mine Operations professionals who will provide mentorship and guidance. You will gain the skills necessary to properly define problems, develop solutions, analyze alternatives and assess your impact on the operations.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Assist in the completion of engineering work packages and material requisition packages
  • Review daily production data for accuracy and capture in data management systems
  • Prepare and present summary reports, performance metrics reports, graphical representation and PowerPoint presentations as required
  • Assist with tracking soil movement, analyzing survey data and producing weekly maps
  • Support the coordination of projects, ordering materials, organizing deliveries, and managing project timelines
  • Create project scope descriptions and maps
  • Track and schedule projects while evaluating contractor resource allocation
  • Verify dispatch data integrity and data analysis
  • Report and investigate daily on production and performance of the mine’s fleet using the dispatch system and an SQL database
  • Develop new and specialized reporting tools on demand
  • Produce ore plan and inventory spreadsheets
  • Build weekly plan maps and design reserve polygons required for dispatch
  • Work on small-scale projects such as road designs or small civil designs
  • Assist with contractor production tracking, management and execution
  • Provide direct technical support to all members of the Mine Operations team
  • Undertake a range of business optimization cases and cost saving initiatives
  • Assist in the development of mine planning standards, policies and systems; the design of mine-site infrastructure (ditches, haul roads, stockpiles) and other development activities

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrolment in a formal co-op in Mine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geology at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Alignment with our [ Link removed ] : safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD or Minescape
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, administration and organizational skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in [ Link removed ] , Alberta
  • This is an 8 – 12-month work term, starting in May or September 2021
  • Some of these positions have been identified as safety sensitive
  • Relocation support may be provided
  • Your work schedule will be determined based on the position requirements; however, most positions will be 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday
