Job overview

PST is currently seeking an Operations Manager. This position will be based out of the PST facility located in Orangeburg, NY. This position reports to the Plant Manager and will have direct responsibility for leading production and warehouse operations to ensure business objectives are met in a safe and efficient manner. A key component of this role is to ensure processes are capable, compliant, in control and continuously improved.

Primary responsibilities

Be a champion for a safe workplace

  • Target zero lost time & recordable incidents.
  • Ensure 100% attendance at all scheduled safety meetings.
  • Follow through on all Safety Near Miss ideas and initiatives.
  • Ensure follow through on all safety audit observations to prevent reoccurrences.

Lead the value stream supervisors by providing expert support to plant floor operations.

  • Provide leadership and direction for day-to-day operations to meet demand based on customer needs.
  • Coach/mentor/develop team members to encourage and support a high performance work culture.
  • Ensure team is trained and focused on departmental processes to perform job functions in accordance with all requirements of Praxair Safety and Quality systems. Monitor and drive timely training documentation.
  • Administer Performance Management and Development process.
  • Create and implement systems that support flow through the plant.
  • Utilize MDI (Lean Management System) to measure and communicate performance against plant metrics.
  • Lead teams in solving manufacturing problems when gaps are detected.
  • Ensure operational discipline in use of visual tools.

Oversee the manufacturing and warehouse processes

  • Responsible for analyzing and interpreting data from manufacturing operations.
  • Recommend process and operational changes to overcome process issues, avoid deviations, and improve productivity.
  • Ensure process change control.
  • Conduct thorough investigations and data analysis to identify root causes for deviations.
  • Implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure manufacturability of new products and provide input to new product builds.
  • Ensure technical readiness for product ramp.
  • Work closely with maintenance to ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and performs as per specifications.
  • Target 100% On Time Delivery by thoroughly managing the planning and execution of customer orders.
  • Drive productivity projects for manufacturing cost and lead time reduction.
  • Collaborate with QA to reduce cost of poor quality occurrence through preventative measures and root cause corrective action.
  • Manage resource utilization and implement mechanisms to improve production capacity.

Efficiency

  • Drives plant productivity and efficiency by monitoring production data.
  • Support 5S and Lean Projects and continuously identify ways to reduce plant operating costs through the incorporation of Operational Excellence strategies
  • Investigate and introduce new manufacturing technology and methodology to enhance product quality and production efficiency.
  • Provide recommendations to the Plant Manager for capital investments.

Foster relationships with internal customers (CSD, Engineering, Procurement, QA, Finance, etc.) to gain perspective and effectiveness when dealing with Operations issues.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. Will consider prior work experience in lieu of educational requirement.
  • 5 years of previous managerial or supervisory experience required
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and different functional areas
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential to be successful in this role
  • Flexible schedule to support production needs
  • Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Engineering or related Technical Field
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Six Sigma Certifications
