General Description of Position: Installing underground utilities such as water, sanitary sewer and other similar utilities while working in a trench.
%26bull; Installs repairs and lays pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
%26bull; Signal equipment operators to ensure a safe and proper excavation has been dug.
%26bull; Align and join sections of pipe.
%26bull; Coordinate all other activities in the excavation.
%26bull; Knowledge of tools and equipment necessary to perform the job.
%26bull; Checks slopes for conformation to requirements, using levels or lasers
%26bull; Cover pipes with earth or other materials
%26bull; Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using cement or glue.
%26bull; Cut pipes to required lengths.
%26bull; Uses a variety of power and hand tools.
%26bull; Grade and level trench bases.
%26bull; Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools
%26bull; Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices
%26bull; Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit level
%26bull; Cleans tools, equipment and work areas.

Experience and Training: six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Environment: The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/ or precarious places.
