People are Jacobs’ greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent.

In addition to the benefits you’d expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay and free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships. We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for Jacobs. We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

We are continuing to grow the depth and breadth of the technical services that our geoscience and geo-engineering teams can provide for our clients, including in the field of soil science. As a result, we are recruiting a senior to join our Land Quality team (within our Water, Energy & Environment business unit) to enhance our team strength in providing high quality soil science and geo-environmental advice to our clients.  The role will require flexibility to work across a range of sectors including nuclear, rail, highways, utilities and water and also including other emergent sectors.

The individual we seek should have strong expertise in soil science, including its application to areas such as environmental impact assessment, soil/peatland management, ecological mitigation, landscaping and natural flood management. The ability to design and coordinate soil surveys for a range of purposes is essential, and the ability to occasionally undertake soil surveys is desirable.  Good all-round technical expertise in geo-environmental work is also desirable, with experience of infrastructure and development projects. Chartered status with an appropriate professional body would be beneficial.

You will need to be a team player, capable of developing a network of contacts with clients and within the wider Jacobs team. You will need to be willing to work away from your base office, with a high level of personal responsibility and show an adaptable and flexible approach to a range of project requirements. Commercial awareness is essential.

The successful candidate will be working within the UK and Europe Land Quality team, which includes over 70 soil and contamination specialists that provide strategic advice and innovative solutions to manage our clients’ subsurface environmental liabilities and opportunities. The location for the role is flexible amongst our UK office locations. Jacobs are keen to embrace the ‘new way of working’ with a mixture of home and office-based work supported. It may be necessary to be based in other Jacobs offices or at our client offices or sites as projects require. Applicants are required to have a UK passport or valid work visa.

  • Previous soil consulting experience including a mixture of site and office-based work.
