The IT Department is responsible for providing technology and support to enable fee earners and business services employees to operate efficiently both internally and with their clients. The IT department is comprised of two functions, Customer Services and Technology Services. These two functions work closely together with the shared goal of delivering strategic business value through the application of technology. IT operates as a global team with regional presence in most of our offices. Our centralised IT infrastructure is maintained and managed by Technology Services and Customer Services provides all business facing support and services.
Role summary/purpose of job
To operate Service Delivery monitoring and configuration management systems.
Key responsibilities and deliverables Maintain health of the environment by keeping the environment current with upgrades and patches and by troubleshooting and resolving issues raised by employed associated tools. Monitors systems performance and troubleshoots problem areas as needed. Provide operational and technical support to ensure the ongoing stability to the server environments. Carries out agreed operational procedures, and maintenance. Uses various management tools to collect and report on system health and performance statistics. Contributes to the implementation of maintenance and installation work. Identifies operational problems and contributes to their resolution Currently holds and maintains a diverse set of skills across multiple technical disciplines with recognized expertise in multiple disciplines and possess advanced knowledge of multiple mature and emerging technologies. Analyses system capacity and performance to support problem resolution and system enhancements and monitors systems tests. Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems and services. Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools. Conducts tests, corrects malfunctions, and documents results in accordance with agreed procedures. Reports details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed so that configuration management records can be updated. Collaborates with Freshfields service owners and system architects to assess near- and long-term capacity needs. Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to Monitoring configuration, mapping, processes and service records Reviews system software and security updates and identifies those that merit action. Installs and tests new versions of system software prior to enterprise rollout. Investigates and coordinates the resolution of potential and actual service problems. Prepares and maintains operational documentation for system and security software. Advises on the correct and effective use of system software. An ability to identify monitoring and system improvements within a continual service improvement environment. Conducts research on monitoring products, services, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the various Monitoring industry. Practices monitoring system asset management, including maintenance of system component inventory and related documentation. Participates in design documentation of Monitoring related solutions. Participates in the transition process to operational teams. Act as a project leader for some projects providing task direction to achieve project goals.
Essential Technical Skills Knowledge and experience of design, implementation and operation of system monitoring tools, specifically Microsoft SCOM Server performance monitoring and analysis of Windows environments, having worked with SCOM and Solarwinds monitoring products A good knowledge and hands on experience of current Windows server operating environments
Desirable Technical Skills Working knowledge on virtualization (VMWare), Citrix XenDesktop, Provisioning Servers and NetScaler technologies. Server performance monitoring and analysis of Linux environments, having worked with SCOM and Solarwinds monitoring products Knowledge of SAN storage, driver installation, back-up and clustering technologies. MS SQL general knowledge (but not essential) Strong networking knowledge – TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS Experience of administering and supporting Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory Knowledge of load balancing technologies A good knowledge and hands on experience of software deployment via SCCM
Desirable Qualifications ITIL Service Management Foundation certification (or equivalent) MCSA, MCSE, MCP
