The main activity of the job is to provide business users the entire Emerson Process Managements operational data in an informative format viewable in reports. Business users use the data in the reports to make strategic business decisions. In order to make this large volume of data accessible in usable reports in very fast response times, the data has to be transformed into a particular format called dimensional data which is stored in data marts or data warehouses. This project involves designing and maintaining ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) mechanisms to download data from Emerson transactional database systems, then transform and load the data into Data Marts data warehouses to aid the creation of business reports that can enable users to make better decisions. The project uses Microsoft SQL Server as an Operational Database and Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services as its primary ETL tool to download data from Oracle, flat files systems, IBM source systems, SQL Server upstream databases. The project also uses various other tools for day-to-day project activities like Red Gate SQL Toolbelt, Microsoft Excel, SQL Server Reporting Services and Microsoft PowerShell.
Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
