Borrego is seeking a Site Safety Manager in the Utility Scale Division to be a key member of the project team. The Site Safety Manager will be responsible for overall safety of the project, including administration and enforcement of the Site Safety Plan. The Site Safety Manager will work with the site team to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and health standards.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

  • Act as a cultural leader of safety, collaborate with safety supervisory personnel to identify and remedy unsafe working conditions; Coach the site team and employees how to identify and eliminate hazards
  • Responsible for working with subcontractors to create and enforce a safe working environment through coaching, lessons learned, and a positive approach 
  • Complete investigations of all safety and property damage incidents, and review with Sr. EHS Manager and project management team
  • Lead all weekly safety meetings and the Safety Observation Reporting (SOR) program
  • Promote and support the company’s Stop Work Authority and collaborate with the project management team to develop standard work procedures that will eliminate exposure to unsafe conditions
  • Conduct regular walk-through inspections and assessments of construction areas including reviewing with the crews and subcontracts the work practices followed; Investigate all incidents and safety exposures to complete Root Cause Analysis; Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk through tours, and ensure all documentation is completed in accordance with the corporate and AHJ required safety processes and procedures
  • Collaborate with the site leadership team in reviewing all safety documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted timely
  • Complete observations and assess work plans, work instructions, and work activities; Participate in the creation of trade specific risk assessment matrices, three-week look ahead discussions and subcontractor alignment meetings
  • Ensure and assist the site team with executing the Site Safety Program, which includes training and orientation, JHAs, CATS, and SIF observations throughout the project site
  • Lead accident investigations with the Sr. EHS Manager utility Root Cause Analysis and other problem-solving measures; Seek to identify and implement preventative measures at the highest level within the controls possible; Ensure preventative measures are implemented in a timely manner and sustained daily during construction activities
  • Follow through with injury management and collaborate with supervisors to mitigate claims and exposure to costs with personnel, subcontractors, and equipment
  • Comply with companies Return-to-Work policy
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with local occupational physicians, EMTs, fire departments, and law enforcement officials 
  • Understand and support the Sr. Project Manager and Site Manager with the safety budget items associated with the project
  • Manage, mentor, and train Site Safety Coordinators
  • Coordinate and plan corporate safety related training at project site

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of NFPA, 1910.269, and 1926 subpart K
  • Advanced knowledge of EHS risks, requirements and compliance objectives within construction and contractor management topics
  • 3-5 years experience as a safety professional on construction projects; preferably with utility scale solar
  • 4-year Occupational Safety/Health degree or equivalent combinations of training and/or experience
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to comply with federal, state, local and company level safety regulation requirements
  • CHST or SMS preferred 
  • OSHA 500
  • First Aid / CPR / AED qualified
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve and develop short- and long-term goals
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Able to influence and communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Experience with training and education of contractors
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical, structural, and civil construction processes and requirements, construction contracts, and administration
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Visio)
  • Accounting (math and record-keeping)
  • Must be willing to relocate to the project site for the duration of each construction project they are assigned

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS [if included]

  • Experience with Procore or other project management software including Bluebeam, Salesforce, and Box
  • Experience with quality improvement and lean construction
