Shift Manager/Team Leader
Job Description:
The primary role of the position is to monitor and maintain the hot dip galvanizing line operation by working closely with the process technician team with priority on safety, environmental, quality and production.  This role is an active and highly visible within the plant and responsible for solid communication with crews, managers, and support teams. Position will require coordination of day-to-day crew scheduling, attendance, logistics, maintenance, quality, and training.  Work hand in hand with crew to determine best trouble-shooting needs and execute.  Authority to shut down line operations if needed to correct immediate safety, environmental, quality, and other operational needs.  Communication with the crew expectations of day-to-day tasks and hold crews accountable for performance deliverables. Support and lead efforts towards engagement and participative management practices.  This position will work at the direction of the Operations Manager.

Job Duties:
  • Lead for monitoring operation and maintenance of crews for the hot dip galvanizing line with focus on safety, environmental, quality and production. Includes ownership of all support areas of the facility (Warehouse, WWTP, RO, Steam and Compressors).
  • Ensure safety activities for crews (operating and maintenance), contractors, vendors, visitors within the plant are followed. 
  • Correct and coach all on unsafe actions, behaviors, and conditions. 
  • Complete required safety and quality audits, observations and collect data from crews on issues. 
  • Change work assignments and/or positions needed for operational and maintenance needs.
  • Conduct evaluations and approve technicians qualifying for additional operational skill blocks within the pay & progression guidelines.
  • Address employee performance when it occurs and document.  Update Shift Manager Incident log and communicates immediately to the Operations and Technology Manager.
  • Monitor and report quality of products by working closely with Inspectors and quality department.  Determine immediate course of action to mitigate a quality excursion.
  • Complete and collect signatures of Attendance forms & update Crew books.  Update and maintain vacation spreadsheet for crews and report labor reporting on Turn Reports. 
  • Complete and submit Turn Reports at end of each shift.  Ensure all documentation has been collected to support Turn Report.
  • Work with crews and complete required troubleshooting and information gathering before calling maintenance/engineering.
  • Use software to compliment maintenance and operational needs by utilizing appropriate software (TabWare and MQ1)
  • Attend all required training.
  • Achieve assigned business plan goals.
  • All other duties as required.

Scope of the position:
Will supervise salaried bargaining unit employees regarding job completion / assignments / performance. Supervises both operating and maintenance activity on the turns. Provides leadership to the safety, environmental, quality and production efforts; identify and remedy issues as necessary and as soon as possible. Must be able to work any shift and rotate as needed to support operations.


Experience/Education Requirements:

Minimum/Basic Requirements:
  • Three (3) years of production supervisory experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment preferably in a union facility.
  • A supervisory or technology degree, or for the exceptional candidate a high school diploma and commensurate experience.
  • Ability to lead and work with various levels within the plant and possess sound communication skills, ability to troubleshoot, and make quick decisions;
  • Familiar with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be able to work on rotating shift basis and on weekends in a multi-level industrial environment.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Five (5) years of maintenance and production experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment preferably in a union facility.
  • A bachelor's degree with the discipline in manufacturing, supervision, business or engineering.
  • Ability to lead and work with various levels within the plant and possess sound communication skills, ability to troubleshoot, and make quick decisions;
  • Familiar with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be able to work on rotating shift basis and on weekends in a multi-level industrial environment.
