Job Description
Jacobs Technology is seeking an Electronic Maintenance Technician II to support the Electronic Proving Ground (EPG) contract in Fort Huachuca, AZ. The Electronic Maintenance Technician II is in support of threat systems operations, maintenance, configuration, and documentation related to the IEWTD Threat Instrumentation System (ITIS) assets.


Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the real-time fault isolation of complex systems and sub-systems and incorporating engineering changes. Work typically requires an understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) waveform propagation techniques, RF system troubleshooting principals, the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.


The candidate will plan and perform non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable, such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems. Work will include assistance by lower level technicians and frequent contact with professionals and others within the establishment. 
Candidates will be expected to develop or review designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data, applying conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists. Work will include conducting tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures, preparing and operating equipment, recording data, measuring and recording problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level, and analyzes data and prepares test reports. The applicant will apply methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects, constructing experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducts tests or experiments and redesigns as necessary and recording and evaluating data and reports findings.


Typical Duties
  • Provide instrumentation support including calibration; configuration; installation; transportation; operation; maintenance (preventative, intermediate, and field); modification; upgrade; and development.
  • Provide sustaining and on-call maintenance as required on mobile facilities before, during, and after tests.  This maintenance includes, but is not limited to, electronics, fiber optics, and electrical. This service shall include operator level maintenance of the associated vehicles and generators and acquiring any required higher-level maintenance.
  • Develop, as required, and maintain operation and maintenance manuals for all existing instrumentation systems and associated equipment for each system.
  • Perform and document inspections, maintenance and calibrations on a wide variety of fixed and mobile antenna systems. Equipment calibration, inspections, and maintenance shall be performed according to applicable equipment technical specifications and manuals, and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
  • Support configuration changes to instrumentation, engineering modifications, development of experimentation items, maintenance and repair of test support systems and their components.



Education and Experience:
High School Diploma and 3 years experience, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.


Required Skills
  • Practical experience with the use of signal generators, network analyzers, digital multi-meters, RF power meters, spectrum analyzers and other related TMDE.  
  • Practical experience manufacturing and/or repairing antenna systems, RF transmission lines, radio frequency systems, assemblies, and sub-assemblies
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
  • Professional demeanor, good interpersonal skills, and ability to excel in a high-paced multi-tasked environment.
  • Ability to act independently, prioritize tasks, and manage to schedule.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written modes, and be able to author and present subject specific presentations. Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to other locations as required on occasion.
  • Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required.
  • Must pass drug screen.
  • Travel is required and applicant must be able to travel according to a changing schedule in support of test events for at least 1 week per event and up to four weeks at a time.

Work Environment

  • Work execution involves both office and field work
  • An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
  • Outside work includes various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates. Regular outside work includes hiking medium distances over uneven or rough terrain, climbing on vehicles, tactical radio equipment installation, setup and teardown.

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment and frequently at outdoor locations such as job sites.


Physical Requirements

  • Must have sufficient mobility, included but not limited to: hiking, bending, reaching, turning and kneeling.
  • Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, or up to 5 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. 


Equipment and Machines

  • Operates office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment.
  • Position may require filing, typing, and reading from a computer screen.
  • Performs repair of circuit boards, RF cabling, radio systems and sub-assemblies using related test measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). 
  • Driving on and off road for moderate to long distances both non-tactical and tactical vehicles may be required.  When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.


Attendance

  • Regular work hours will be Monday-Friday 7:00AM to 4:00PM.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required to meet deadlines.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others.
