The vacancy is to support our Materials Science & Structural Integrity laboratories, which feature testing facilities and associated equipment operating at high temperature and high pressure. These facilities deliver a diverse range of services, mostly in support of the nuclear industry and energy markets, for clients such as MoD, EDF, Rolls-Royce and EPRI. By joining our team, you will be working with people from a wide range of technical disciplines to provide support to our laboratories and ensure test rigs are available and working to allow our technical teams to deliver data to clients.
We are looking for an creative and enthusiastic mechanical engineer who would like to get involved in designing new high temperature and pressure systems, from concept to completion, to support our growing testing operations portfolio. In addition to the skills mentioned above, the successful candidate shall have an aptitude for problem solving and working within a multi-disciplined team.
Typical activities can include defining rig layouts and system component drawings, performing stress analysis and sizing calculations, ensure consideration is given to appropriate material selection, production of technical specifications.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
• Educated to degree level in mechanical engineering, ideally with design experience.
• Curiosity, a questioning attitude and critical thinking skills to cultivate innovative solutions.
• Experience of using relevant software packages (for example Inventor/AutoCAD and finite element analysis packages).
• Adaptable and excellent interpersonal skills, for communication with internal team members and clients.
• A thorough focus on safety.
• Good organisational skills, time management and the ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience of rig design and / or pressure systems and knowledge of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) is desirable but not essential.
• Experience of completing mechanical projects from conception through to commissioning is desirable but not essential.
