Reporting to the Manager, Settlement and Structured Transactions, the Analyst will be responsible to collaborate in the settlement of energy market trading, long term energy contracts and retail contracts

Responsibilities

  • Validate and fully understand the accounting entries done for invoices and month end estimates while respecting the accounting organizational standards;
  • Fully comprehend energy market settlement and charge code algorithms to develop a shadow calculation or validation process;
  • Fully comprehend charge code algorithms and the corporate structure in order to allocate revenues and charges to the right legal entities and business strategy
  • Conduct research and analysis to remain current with energy market rules that impact settlement and revenues;
  • Analyze current settlement processes, procedures and reports for continued development and improvement;
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to various governmental agencies and regulators in Canada and the US
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure accuracy in financial and regulatory reports submitted to management;
  • Work on system improvements, upgrades and new system implementations
  • Work with the Trading team and external counterparties to resolve settlement disputes;
  • Ensure daily and monthly settlement tasks are successfully completed;
  • Support the Manager, Settlement and Structured Transactions with supporting the Canadian and US business platforms.

Requirements

  • Enthusiastic learner with demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast paced work environment;
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail; working in a conscientious, consistent and thorough manner;
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision and as part of a large team;
  • Ability to locate and collect data from appropriate sources and analyze it to prepare meaningful and concise reports that summarize the information;
  • Remain energized and focused in the face of ambiguity, change or strenuous demands;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines;
  • Capable of solving problems and using sound judgment;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English; French is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Economics or a related financial/quantitative discipline;
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience in a related field, preferably energy;
  • Advanced Excel skills (i.e. Macros, Pivot Tables, PowerQuery);
  • Knowledge of reconciliation and validation software such as Open Access Technology International, Inc.(OATI) is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Trade capture and Data Validation Systems is an asset.
