Geologist I
Overview
Working alone or with more senior or junior professionals and technicians, the incumbent conducts comprehensive geologic, paleontoligical, hydrogeological or geocellular modeling studies and analyses, prepare reports and presents results to management. He must be able to develop timely and accurate solutions to geologic problems and operations issues in one or more areas. The incumbent might be made a Team Leader, if he has suitable management skills and has demonstrated technical skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
Generally as a member of a team, the incumbent is expected to be able to efficiently use pertinent computer software to aid in performing several of the following activities, the number and combination depending upon his assignment:
- Interprets geophysical, paleontological and geological data, uses geologic concepts and integrates information from variety of geologic disciplines to develop leads, locate new exploration targets and recommend drillable prospects to management.
- Interprets and integrates geological, paleontoligical and geophysical data to develop existing fields by recommending optimal well placement to drilling engineers.
- Integrates large amounts of geological, paleontoligical and geophysical data to create geological and/or integrated numerical models for calculation of reserves and reservoir simulations.
- Conducts regional studies integrating geologic and seismic interpretation tools to determine the regional geological framework and exploration potential of future trends.
- Develops, evaluates and implements computer programs and applications for solving Exploration Organization problems.
- Assists Wellsite during the drilling of exploration and development wells.
- Documents his work in a professional manner and makes presentations to management.
- Assists the Manager in accountability and operating planning, 2D and 3D seismic data acquisition planning, etc.
- Trains new personnel.
- Performs any or all of the duties described in the Geologist II job description.
Minimum Requirements
a. Bachelor's degree in Geology, or related sciences. A Master's degree or higher in Geology or a related science will reduce prerequisite work experience stated in (b) below by one year.
b. Nine (9) years experience in Exploration or Reservoir Characterization.
c. Fluent in spoken English and has good English writing skills.
d. Demonstrated technical competence on at least two consecutive performance appraisals and promotability on most recent performance appraisal.
