Position: Senior Estimator, Renewables Division
Reports to: Assistant Chief Estimator, Renewables Division
HQ is in San Jose California, for the right individual we may consider candidates who could work from a remote home office, in the US.
Position Summary: The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading utility-scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) estimates, including self-perform and subcontracted scopes of work.
Essential Functions:
- Perform all levels and types of estimating, planning, scheduling, and cost engineering for project activities
- Accurately perform material take-offs for renewable energy projects
- Review, evaluate and negotiate material quotes
- Develop and maintain material vendor relationships
- Management of subcontractors:
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors/partners
- Manage subcontractor database
- Prepare vendor Requests for Quotes and evaluate vendor pricing
- Understanding of power delivery, including substations and transmission lines
- Understanding of all engineering scopes, including electrical, mechanical, structural, civil, and permitting and permitting compliance
- Train and develop junior estimators
- Understand and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Review and implement lessons learned to ensure estimating data is accurate and competitive
- Research new products and installation techniques and develop cost roadmaps to ensure competitive pricing
- Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications
- Ability to operate in a high-stress environment to provide critical project deliverables in the form of engineering, procurement, and construction estimates with supporting documentation to meet milestone proposal dates
- Understanding of shipping and logistics with respect to cost estimating
- Maintenance of solar database, including vendors, subs, and take off items
- Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate with team members while working remotely
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management preferred, or significant relevant experience
- 10+ years of estimating experience in solar PV and battery energy storage and/or procurement of materials and services
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, organizational and negotiation skills
- Experience with Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) estimates
- Experience with MS Office
- Experience with Accubid or similar estimating software
- Utility and/or commercial PV experience
- Existing relationships with Tier 1 vendors
