Commissioning Engineer/Technician
Location: Field position in Massachusetts
The Commissioning Engineer/Technician will work with a cross-functional team to outline detailed design requirements and follow that design through the entire project development process.
The ability to manage resources, challenging schedules, and rich technical scope is one of the most important qualities required for this role.
A typical week could include writing an RFP for a new electrical design, working with a vendor to determine technical capabilities, acting as the technical liaison between teams, conducting a new factory acceptance test, or planning and conducting site commissioning efforts for BESS units.
This individual will provide technical excellence for the team, ensuring that the project and company goals are continually met. Compliance with company policy and team engagement are a priority. Passion, integrity, and engagement are the most important qualities required for this role.

Core Objectives
- Execution- Process driven execution strategies to enhance quality, schedule, and budgets
- Stakeholder management- Act as a principal point of contact for stakeholder engagement throughout
- Quality- Provide world class solutions to ensure compliance and customer satisfaction
Key Responsibilities
- Work with a team to design, build, install, commission, and service BESS units.
- Conduct quality controls and inspections on BESS and product assemblies
- Design test plans and select test equipment for production and R&D activities
- Take a hands-on approach in the execution and construction of projects including subcontractor site visits, fabrication floor inspections, and test programs.
- Act as the technical SME for all integrated equipment within the BESS for clients, subcontractors, senior management, and the project team
- Translate project concepts into detailed design requirements
- Determine technical requirements for switchgear and electrical control panels
- Create electrical and mechanical drawings to be used as technical reference
- Work with vendors to build any custom assemblies required
- Ready the test environment for all FAT level testing
- Perform site planning and commissioning/SAT activities for the successful connection and operation of delivered BESS units
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and participate in the development of commissioning and maintenance procedures
- Engage stakeholders and vendors while maintaining and developing client relationships throughout the project lifecycle and beyond
- Manage project design to ensure adherence to specifications, standards, quality, timelines, and codes (CEC, NEC, UL508, UL9540, NFPA 855, etc.)
- Contribute to the continuous analysis of organizational activities and performance to ensure efficiency, revenue enhancement, and overall margin improvement
- Chair and manage technical project meetings including technical resolution, client updates, and executive updates
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop strategic plans for all aspects of the organization relating to new technologies, strategic sourcing, and regulatory compliance
- Hold regular meetings with the team to identify and resolve any issues, problems, or concerns
- Constant collaboration with the Engineering Manager to champion newly identified solutions, equipment, and lessons learned from completed projects
- Provide benefit analysis of new equipment for the benefit of BESS development including obsolescence, availability, and adherence to requirements and specifications
Requirements
- Proven safety mindset and continuous improvement methodology
- Familiarity with some or all of the following:
- 1500VDC and 600VAC electrical systems
- AC/DC Inverters & DC/DC Converters
- QA/QC of electrical and comm. systems
- PLC and Automation Systems
- Network communications
- Knowledge of NEC, CEC, UL9540 and NFPA 855 standards
- Thorough understanding of electrical/mechanical designs, schematics, P&IDs, specifications, and codes
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with electrical diagnostic tools
- Exceptional (written and verbal) communication skills
- Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to balance multiple projects under strict deadlines
Work Conditions
- Travel required to jobsites (predominantly in Massachusetts)
- Manual dexterity necessary for desktop computer and peripherals
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb ladders
