Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Process Engineer II with oil refining experience to join our team! 

Role Summary:

The Process Engineer II role is responsible for the provision of chemical process engineering support to the operation, and maintenance of a condensate stabilization and atmospheric distillation process unit, refrigerated LPG systems, as well as design, construction, commissioning, and startup of new units and projects. The role also covers other units at Buckeye Texas Processing and Buckeye Texas Hub as necessary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Technical Lead. Serving as the Technical resource for day to day operations and troubleshooting of the facility.
  • Optimizing Plant Operations. Monitoring the operating parameters of the facility, initiating trending of pertinent data, and leading refinement efforts toward optimizing plant operations for reduction of operating costs and maintaining/improving unit throughput.
  • Project Support. Assisting with the evaluation, justification, and development of project scopes and their implementation.
  • Maintenance Project Support. Assisting with the development of scope and planning for maintenance windows and other facility outages.
  • Collaborating with Buckeye HSSE professionals to assure that safe and environmentally sound work practices are being developed and followed in operations and projects within the splitter facility.
  • Processes and Procedures. Developing and deploying processes, systems, tools, and procedures to aid in the execution of operational and maintenance work activities in the facility.
  • Personnel Development. Assisting leadership with mentoring of junior Process Engineering employees.
  • Process Safety Management. Supporting and participating in MOC, PHA, and Hazop reviews.
  • And other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  • S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering may be considered if extensive experience in the processing industry is shown. The capabilities described herein will still be met.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Process Engineering. Experience will have been gained in actual day-to-day operations of unit operations described.
  • Experience in operation of crude oil refining unit operations including flash towers, LPG stabilizers, and atmospheric distillation will be preferred. This experience will have been gained in actual day-to-day operations of unit operations described.
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of low temperature refrigeration systems and refrigerated LPG storage will be preferred.
  • Up to 25% travel


Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities:

  • Mastery of communication with all levels of the organization including: management, engineering professionals, plant operators, maintenance personnel, suppliers, and contractors using the English language
  • Skillful in the use of HYSYS process simulation software
  • Skillful in Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Skillful in plant operations, trending, and reporting from Distributive Control Systems (Delta V in particular)
  • Ability to teach/coach others in process and procedures

Essential Functions:

  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.
  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.


Physical & Safety Requirements:

  • General office/control room environment will be typical. However, this role will require spending considerable portions of time in the operating plant.  The ability to spend significant portions of working time standing, walking, climbing stairs, and working in the outdoor environment year-around will be required.  Working at high elevations and tight confined spaces.
  • This person must meet medical criteria established by OSHA for emergency response.
