Cost Accountant Specialist

Orem, Utah


Pay: $16-$20/hour DOE


The primary function of this this role is to coordinate accurate accounting of costs between Operations and Finance. Daily they will review transactions from several sources, consolidate and categorize the spend, take corrective actions, and look for cost savings opportunities. The best candidate will work well independently and provide cross functional support to Accounting, Finance, other Operations departments as needed.


Purchasing Audits – Review daily transactions from each distributor to ensure price/cost accuracy (PPV). Lead out in taking corrective actions such as: credit requests, tool purchase reimbursements, material returns, distributor invoice corrections, flagging purchases, etc. The key driver here is cost savings and expense avoidance.

Period Close – Assist Accounting to close each period and reconcile spend. Review invoices, determine accruals and identify for PO errors. Consolidate and communicate findings on time.

Error Correction – Problem solving in this role is critical. The best candidates will be able to eliminate reoccurring price/cost variances by identifying and correcting billing errors.

Automation – Currently this work will be done in Excel. Automation to improve efficiency and accuracy is expected.


Communication – You must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with internal employees and external business partners. Follow up on conversations when work is completed or more information is required. Be able to clearly express problems and define solutions. Be responsive on email and messaging.

Problem Solving – Be able to clearly identify problems, determine the root cause(s), define, execute, and sustain solutions. Be curious in your approach and diligent in the solution.

Financial Acumen – Basic understanding of inventory accounting principles: purchase orders, invoices, receipts, credits, accruals, reversals, and general financial statements.

Data and Analysis – Solid Excel and analysis experience (XLookup, Dynamic Named Ranges, VBA). An understanding of data organization and relational databases. Ability to neatly present data related to key performance indicators that demonstrates an improvement or reduction in performance and defines action items to further progress.

High Achievement – Ability to drive results and achieve monthly goals.
