Summary

Manage commercial transactions of offsets (carbon, energy certificates etc.) through market research, identification and selection of brokerage and trading firms, aggregators, funds and other partners and close the deals with them to support NEOM’s carbon neutrality vision

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research and due diligence activities in relation to offset markets, price trends, transaction volumes, policies etc. and provide support to decision making
  • Identify, develop, and maintain a network and strong partnerships with offset suppliers
  • Oversee the development of NEOM’s offset portfolio strategy and create a strategic offset portfolio tailored to NEOM’s needs
  • Develop relevant processes for risk management with a focus on volume risk, price risk, and regulatory risk
  • Manage NEOM’s annual carbon position
  • Lead negotiations with offset suppliers to ensure best deals in the market within the time and financial constraints
  • Prepare and review offset purchase agreements, term sheets etc. in collaboration with the Legal Department, and lead the process of signing them to ensure delivery of agreed terms
  • Monitor transaction compliance (milestone, deliverables, invoicing, etc.) to ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled and in compliance with E&W regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Manage contract renewal, renewal of disclosure documents and follow-up of subsequent procedures to ensure that all required documents are valid
  • Identify issues, special circumstances or breaches of contracts and take corrective solutions to ensure that all issues are flagged and resolved
  • Collaborate with the relevant personal in the Carbon Unit for the purpose of optimizing deliveries of projects and offsets
  • Prepare reports on the on-going and closed deals with relevant parties and ensure effective communication
  • Organize and supervise the work of the assigned team to ensure that all work within a specific area of the activity is carried out in an efficient manner, which is consistent with operating procedures and policy
  • Provide guidance and on the job training for junior colleagues and conduct knowledge sharing to facilitate achievement of team objectives and completion of tasks in an efficient manner which is consistent with operating procedures and policy

Education & Experience

  • Master’s in economics, finance, or energy related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in offset portfolio management
  • Knowledge of and experience in offset markets, preferably project-based carbon standards, energy certificates and other certification schemes
  • Strong track record in generating new business opportunities and closing deals
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and team members
  • Legal and contract management skills are a plus
  • Highly analytical, strategic, and tactical skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and high resilience
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills
