Your responsibilities
Summary:
Provides expertise in the design and purchasing of expendable and returnable packaging for production parts and purchased components. Develops, designs and validates packaging projects, including new packaging designs, material conversions, packaging equipment procurement lifecycle and quality and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures safe and ergonomic use of equipment by and for all team members
Designs and implements packaging solutions for new projects, recurrent problems and continuous improvement of processes.
Develops expendable and returnable packaging, as required, for Bilstein products ensuring safety. Designs packaging to protects product quality from our production line to end customer using the best economical solution respecting the environment and sustainability.
Gains a complete understanding of customer packaging requirements. Interacts with customers’ portals and packaging contacts to ensure a continuous flow of packaging materials to avoid disruptions in Bilstein’s production plan.
Works with suppliers and obtains pricing for packaging designs in conjunction with Bilstein Purchasing. Ensures that packaging for incoming parts meets Bilstein’s safety, quality and logistics standards. Assists Purchasing in developing economical in-coming packaging of purchased components that maximizes opportunities for re-use and recycling.
Provides guidelines for estimating for quoting packaging costs review the packaging quotes for major programs prior to submission to the customer.
Approves tooling design and costing for packaging designs.
Coordinates and conducts testing of packaging designs in conjunction with quality assurance, customer requirements and method of shipment requirements to ensure integrity of packaging.
Provides direction in support of initiatives for the re-use, recycling and disposal of packaging materials in Bilstein facilities.
Coordinates and conducts training of manufacturing personnel in the assembly of each specific packaging requirement.
Defines and quotes new packaging requirements in support of the quoting and budgeting of potential new business.
Supports Quality in the research and correction of field quality problems with packaging.
Your profile
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or supply chain engineering or related field.
Working knowledge and experience of packaging engineering in the automotive industry.
Thorough knowledge of supply chain and ERP systems (SAP is a plus).
Demonstrated understanding of Lean Logistics and Manufacturing concepts (APICS-CPIM Certification is desirable).
Strong knowledge and understanding of supply chain, transportation and logistics concepts in an automotive environment.
Working experience with Original Equipment Manufacturers portals and procedures.
Proven experience managing and delivering complex projects within scope, budget and on time.
Ability to read/create technical drawings and specifications.
Understanding on ergonomics and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
Proven experience independently performing calculation and evaluation of packaging fleet sizes.
Strong problem solving and decision making skills including formalized methodologies.
Knowledgeable of APQP core tools: FMEA, SPC and PPAP.
Knowledge and ability to synthesize new and emerging technologies into manageable and practical applications.
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (oral, written, and listening).
Independent & organized work style with the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work responsibilities, assume and manage multiple tasks without close supervision, and meet deadlines
