We currently have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for a Mechanical Engineer – Analyst. The Mechanical Engineer - Analyst position is a cross competency position participating in a variety of disruptive projects currently being developed by TAE Technologies. Nuclear fusion, cancer curing particle accelerators, and innovative electrification of various vehicles are currently being developed. This position will coordinate and participate in the design and analysis based on substantial mechanical engineering knowledge and experience. General knowledge of material selection, structural integrity assessment, heat transfer, and basic electromagnetic theory are helpful to achieve the goals of the position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Physics and Operations groups to clarify requirements
  • Complete scoping design and simple analysis of large experimental systems
  • Complete detailed analysis of design and present resulting design direction for large experimental systems
  • Provide technical design direction for engineers and analytical staff
  • Capability of verifying analysis results through hand calculation
  • Assist fabrication through analysis of as-builts
  • Write and/or review design criteria and analysis assessment reports

 

Required Skills:

  • 6 plus years of experience in: 
  • Relevant experience in design and analysis of large or complex components
  • Understanding of analytical techniques and relevant design codes
  • Finite element experience ANSYS, ABAQUES or similar
  • Able to manage multiple priorities effectively and have proven decision-making skills
  • Sufficient solid modeling experience
  • Capable of reading engineering drawings
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to participate in team meetings and give technical presentations to small groups is required.

Software Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with Catia, and Matlab or Python are not required but desired
  • ASME Pressure Vessel Code
  • Able to work independently, as well as a member and coordinator of a team
  • Knowledge of stainless steel and Inconel materials
  • Basic familiarity with electromagnets
  • Experience with design requirements of high vacuum systems
  • Experience in fusion or fission nuclear power
  • Experience in large research and development projects
  • Previous CAD experience with SolidWorks and/or Catia

Education:

  • S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
