About the job: 

Kent is looking for a Control Systems Technologist to support our client in Clear Lake, TX. 

In this position you will support system administration of multiple Windows server domains and stand-alone systems, installation, documentation, maintenance and overall operational excellence of the process control system computing infrastructure and associated local and wide-area networks.

Your responsibilities:  
  • Management of data backups for servers, databases, and network device configurations.
  • Administration of application databases, verification of automated data imports, and monitoring of system health for process control applications.
  • OS and software installation and the application of security patches, hotfixes, and software upgrades.
  • Investigation and resolution of software, hardware, and network issues.  Working with vendors to resolve problems.
  • Monitoring of operational health of network and computer systems and planning for future resource needs.
  • Management of network device configurations to support optimal performance and security.
  • Maintains regular contact with Pipeline Controllers and Engineers, Control Systems Engineer, and the Operations/Maintenance Managers to periodically review control system infrastructure performance.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance to operating personnel concerning the operations of control system infrastructure.
  • Participates in the development of documentation standards including updates to the pipeline operating manuals.
  • Designs, develops, and prepares formal documentation in support of process control infrastructure design and operation.
  • Provides after hours process control computing, network, and software support.
  • Responsible for managing the security of the pipeline process control systems.
  • Responsible for reviewing periodic security threat notifications and assessing Pipeline PCN infrastructure for vulnerabilities.


Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: 

Qualification/ Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or similar field of study.  Four to six years’ experience working in mission critical IT or OT environments.
  • Basic networking skills including router and switch configuration is required.  Desired areas of experience include virtual LANs, OSPF routing, TCP/IP addressing, MPLS, NAT, serial communications, 900MZ multi-access radios, microwave radio networks, Cellular modems, and satellite communications.
  • Experience with server and workstation hardware is required, including parts replacement, driver updates, and general maintenance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems and office applications, specifically Excel is required.
  • Experience with scripting or programming is preferred with an emphasis on C Sharp Script, Python, Microsoft Power Shell, and VBA.


Skills Requirement:

  • Experience in DCS maintenance/troubleshooting of process control applications (Honeywell, Delta-V, OasysDNA) is a plus. 
  • Familiarity with database administration, specifically SQL and MS SQL server is preferred, Oracle is a plus.
  • Familiarity with report design and configuration using SSRS, crystal reports or similar systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity methods and tactics is a plus.


Communication:

  • Effectively communicate priorities and recommendations relating to process control systems infrastructure to all levels within the pipeline.
