Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Design & Production, the Design Engineer II will be responsible for designing medium to large scale commercial solar PV Systems (between 250 kW to 5 MW) using AutoCAD and other custom tools. The candidate is also expected to provide assistance to the broader Engineering team in generating in house electrical documents as well as aid the Asset Management team for tasks involving monitoring as well as work order issuals. The ability to work independently and as a team member are critical, as well as the desire and innovative mind set to operate as an important contributor within a fast-pace, early stage company environment. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conducting site visits with the project engineer and assisting with building measurements and solar trajectory, shading, and power output calculations
  • Run production models including detailed 3D shading scenes on Solar production software and platforms
  • Designing PV Systems with AutoCAD including PV Module, Racking, Electrical infrastructure and Monitoring System components
  • Use solar engineering equipment including solar pathfinder technologies
  • Analyze solar and building data and assessing project feasibility
  • Drafting of electrical one-line diagrams and panel system designs
  • Understanding the key electrical components
  • Provide lead generation for the business development team for solar opportunities with new and existing clientele
  • Prioritize and manage time efficiently to split the focus between business development and design
  • Aid Asset Management in actual production assessment and translate into actionable modeling techniques using innovative solutions
  • Help the O&M team manage the portfolio of sites by handling the monitoring responsibilities of a certain number of sites critical for the revenue generation of the company

Candidate Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a rapidly growing, early stage company. In addition, the Design Engineer II must possess:      

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Computer Science/Architecture (Focused on Renewable Energy collaboration)
  • Must have 1-3 years prior experience
  • Experience with AutoCAD, manual drafting, and electrical line drawing
  • Fluent in Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems
  • Desire to play a key role building a high growth company
  • Ability to rapidly learn and assimilate new information and techniques
  • Strong math skills, especially in geometry and spatial planning
  • Excellent organizational skills: proficient with spreadsheets and data management along with people skills
  • Ability to interpret site drawings and communicate effectively about them
  • Familiar with electrical components and electrical engineering
  • Knowledge of sales tactics including identifying opportunities and managing leads effectively 
  • Knowledge of Electrical Engineering concepts and electrical transmission a major plus
  • An strong interest in project development - a desire to create something new from plan sets
  • Experience in Structural load calculations and Geotech and Phase I reviews a plus
