In our Bristol HQ we have around 90 Software Engineers all with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. One key thing that all of our engineers have in common is a desire to develop brilliant, industry disrupting products as well as their own skills. Working within the dynamic and fast paced environment of OVO’s Trading function, this role is for a senior engineer who can set high standards and mentor the tech team. With annual wholesale costs in excess of £1.5bn per annum, it is critical that our Trading decisions are supported by robust systems and processes to ensure our Trading activities are effectively handled, monitored and controlled. We trust our development teams to choose their tech stacks, and in the Trading Team that currently includes Python, Airflow, Big Query, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka and Terraform. We run our services in GCP, and have ongoing work migrating data and processes from SQL Server in house. Is this the job for me? You’re the right person for us if:

What experience you’ll need:
  • You’re a hands-on engineer with expertise in at least one programming language and a strong match with the Trading tech stack.
  • You have built or contributed to a variety of systems, ideally in different technologies
  • Knowledge of the best engineering practices and continuous delivery
  • You have experience building highly performant applications
  • Experience of mentoring more junior engineers
  • Comfortable communicating to non-technical stakeholders
