The candidate primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, building high quality prediction systems by using large data sets. Candidate will be responsible for building and implementing models using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods and using a variety of data tools. They must drive business results with tangible business value using data-based insights working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams.

Collaboration & team efforts:

  • You will lead in designing and developing systems and processes to consolidate and analyze both structured and unstructured data from diverse data sources to generate actionable insights
  • Collaborate with Incubation & other analytics team along with subject matter experts (SMEs) to drive and operationalize analytical and cognitive prototypes
  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions
  • Conduct research from which you'll develop prototypes and proof of concepts
  • Look for opportunities to use insights/datasets/code/models across other functions in the organization (for example in the HR and marketing departments)
  • Maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data needs and report results.
  • Create clear reports that tell compelling stories about how customers or clients work with the business

Technical efforts:

  • Identify new data sources for generating meaningful insights from multiple sources; interpret and communicate insights and findings from analysis and experiments to Alstom teams and stakeholders
  • Develop models and perform statistical analysis to identify key areas
  • Design and implement users tracking and feedback mechanisms to capture actions and analyze the impact on business outcomes, following implementation and deployment of analytics and cognitive solutions
  • Design, build, test and deploy scalable and efficient ecosystem components->
    • Use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to produce solutions to problems
    • Test data mining models to select the most appropriate ones for use on a project
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, customers or the wider organization
  • Horizon scan to stay up to date with the latest technology, techniques and methods


A Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science,etc). A postgraduate degree involving research in quantitative field will be a plus.


Total 7-10 years of experience. 4-5 years of experience in working with data sets to build statistical models



  • Strong statistical skills such as in probability theories, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, etc
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forrest, Support Vector Machines, and Clustering
  • Expertise in various data science methods (i.e. CRISP-DM, data understanding & preparation, feature engineering, as well as model training, evaluation and validation)
  • Experience with common data science languages and libraries such as R and Python (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit)
  • Experience with data visualization techniques and tools such as Qlik, PowerBI, Tableau etc
  • Knowledge / Experience on any Data Science Platforms: DataIku (preferred), KNIME, Azure ML Studio, Google Analytics
  • Experience with distributed computing tools like the Hadoop stack, Spark, Pig, Hive etc.
  • Experience with Deep Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Caffe, CNTK, Torch, DL4J, etc
  • Knowledge in data mining and data engineering techniques
  • Clear understanding on the mathematics and statistical knowledge behind algorithms
  • Advanced pattern recognition and predictive modeling experience


  • Comfort working in a dynamic, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects
  • Great communication (oral and written) skills and strong team player. Be fluent in English
  • Ability to learn new techniques and thrive in fast-changing environment
  • Ability to translate complex and abstract problems into technical requirement.
  • Have experience in working with remote teams
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to use this technical knowledge in collaboration with other departments (engineering, procurement, projects)
  • Have a strong sense of customer service and satisfaction
  • An entrepreneurial mind set willing to think out of the box - Intellectual Curiosity & creativity.
