About the Role

In November 2021 SSE unveiled an ambitious £12.5bn investment programme over the next 5 years to focus on the net zero transition.

As a result, the need for disciplined investment decision making and governance is more critical than ever. Our Corporate Finance team has a pivotal role in conducting effective and efficient investment appraisal to ensure SSE's projects are set up to deliver success. SSE’s unregulated project pipeline includes offshore and onshore wind, solar and battery, and carbon capture and storage opportunities spread across the UK and Ireland, Europe and international locations.

As Investment Appraisal Analyst you'll be central to supporting and managing the investment appraisal procedures across all of SSE’s unregulated businesses.

The investment appraisal procedures centre around the Data Input Sheet (DIS) process. The DIS document all the assumptions that are used in the financial model alongside robust supporting rationale. In line with SSE’s commitment to strong financial management, the DIS process provides rigour and helps ensure SSE have a standardised approach at Group level.

The role will also enable you to gain exposure across all of SSE's businesses whilst simultaneously being an active member of the Corporate Finance Team. In the last 24 months we have appraised over £12.0bn of investments as well as completed over £2.8bn of disposals and raised over £7.0bn in project finance debt.

 - Contributing to the Data Input Sheet (DIS) process by documenting all the central case assumptions that are used in the financial model along with supporting rationale and relevant caveats.

 - Liaise and coordinate with a wide variety of stakeholders, business specialists and functions across the Group incl. Procurement & Commercial, Engineering, Technical Analysis, Long Term Price Forecasting, Tax, Treasury, Insurance, and Operations as well as other business unit Finance teams.

- Populating and reviewing the Business Case document for each proposition at each development stage gate in line with the Large Capital Projects Governance Framework Manual.

 - Reviewing and contributing to internal authorisation forum papers to ensure key financial metrics are suitably and accurately represented.

 - Getting involved with opportunities to assist and support in wider Corporate Finance activities.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Degree qualified or above, with preferably a few years of relevant post degree experience

- Proficiency in Excel and ability to comfortably navigate investment financial models with an understanding of key financial metrics alongside scenario and sensitivity analysis

- Be an analytical and pro-active problem solver with strong attention to detail and confidence to challenge anomalies

- Ability to adapt and work pragmatically whilst maintaining discipline to produce high quality output against tight deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment

- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and presentation skills and exercise sound judgement and assertiveness
