Our Water & Environment group provides a focus for advising our clients on environmental management and sustainability issues including low carbon / circular economies, waste/resource management and environmental audit and compliance Our Europe, Middle East & Africa environmental capability comprises in excess of 1200 staff based predominantly in the UK, but with teams also in Ireland, Poland, Germany, France, Italy, India and the Middle East.
During the past year, we have grown our natural capital capability and project pipeline considerably. To meet our growing UK business needs and future aspirations outlined within our Natural Capital Strategy, we are looking for a Consultant/Senior Consultant specialising in natural capital approaches. This role is a full-time position with flexibility on location, yet candidates must be willing to travel.
The natural capital discipline is rapidly evolving. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed candidate to support our growing team, who proactively remains up to date with new developments. As a Consultant/Senior Consultant, you will sit within the Environmental Services resource group of the Water and Environment discipline and will support the delivery of various natural capital assessments and other environmental projects as appropriate.
At Jacobs, we help support our clients to understand what natural assets they influence, the benefits and values these assets afford and how they can be better managed. In turn, this ensures environmental protection, enhancement and contribution to wider strategic objectives, such as those relating to carbon management for example. It will be important for any candidate to have experience in undertaking natural capital assessments, as there will be the expectation that work can be completed independently to a high-standard with suitable supervision.
Upon first joining us, you will likely be working on several innovative projects for the Environment Agency and Transport Scotland. At times, there may be the need utilise your wider sustainability skillset, and we are particularly interested to hear from candidates who have additional experience in environmental net gain, biodiversity net gain, social value and carbon management.
Stakeholder engagement is an important element of our natural capital work and we are looking for a candidate which is confident in delivering workshops (virtual and face-to-face) with clients and wider stakeholders. Similarly, as Jacobs are looking to further grow our track-record in this area, we expect any candidate to contribute to work winning activities where appropriate. We will support a candidate in growing their profile internally and externally and provide mentoring opportunities to fully support development.
• Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Previous involvement in natural capital assessments
• Flexibility to work between different offices if required and a willingness to travel
• Strong data analysis skills and attention to detail
• Experience of working with relevant guidance i.e. Defra’s Enabling a Natural Capital Approach
• Excellent skills and ability in report writing, presentations and workshop delivery
• Experience in business development and work-winning
• A good degree qualification in a relevant environmental/natural science or environmental economics
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• A focus and desire to work safely
• Self-starter with strong initiative
• Chartered status/working towards chartered status to an appropriate institution (IEMA, CIWEM, CIEEM etc.)
• A Masters level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental/natural science or environmental economics
• Previous involvement (preferably 3-5 years) in natural capital assessments
• Understanding of environmental net gain, biodiversity net gain and social value
• Proven ability in environmental valuation methods (monetisation)
• Wider sustainability skillset
