Manage the technical contractual scope of the project and lead the project engineering/testing team.

Manage the technical contractual scope of the project and functionally lead the project engineering team.


  • Project QCDP (quality, cost, delivery and performance)
  • Project Specification, including design documents & project verification & validation documents approval status
  • Project requirement matrix maturity (it covers traceability & coverage of requirements by testing)
  • Engineering management plan (EMP) and engineering process application
  • Validation plan


  • Manage the technical contractual scope of the project:

o Be accountable for the customer acceptance of the project solution (incl. engineering and testing documentation)

o Manage the project technical risks and the corresponding mitigation plan

o In case of contractual scope evolution, support the PM in rising a variation order

o Validate the technical design choices with the peers, Platform and Technical Director

o Identify the applicable regulations/standards in the customer country/city and ensure they are taken into account in project solution design

  • Manage the project solution, meaning the customization and parameterization of the generic solution to meet Quality, Cost, Delivery (planning) and Performance (QCD and P) commitments:

o Write the project EMP (Engineering Management Plan)

o Write the project Test & Validation Plan

o Be accountable for both Engineering and testing Work Packages. Make cost estimates and planning for the technical scope and be accountable for the Progress of the team.

o Build and analyse together with the System engineers the project requirements database and allocate requirements to (sub)systems (your team members) and manage the deviations

o Prepare, organize and record Design Reviews

o Be responsible for the project design and application engineering activities

o Be in charge of all Verification & Validation activities of the project solution, perform full verification or validation of all parameters and data produced on the project

o Manage the technical changes through the ECR (Engineering/Electronic Change Requests) process

  • Functionally lead the project engineering team:

o Allocate Task(s) (derived from the planning) across Project Engineering team

o Define, together with the PM and Technical management, the project engineering team organization according to the project phase (and as defined in the EMP)

o Deploy the applicable engineering process, methods & tools on the project

o Manage and assess the project engineering team, on progress and their deliverables

o Manage railway safety deliverables

  • Manage the interface with the project core team: 

o Provide all technical documents to the project core team members for the industrialisation, supply, installation, test and commissioning (project BOM, architecture schematics, ...)

o Solve technical issues (detected by different core team member)

  • During project warranty, coordinate actions to support resolution of pending technical issues following Project Warranty Manager (PrWM) requirements
  • Support PrQSM to consolidate REX (Return of EXperience) of the Project and add REX items to the design review checklists
  • Support Engineering Department Heads to define/perform knowledge capitalization

Candidate Requirements

Educational Requirements

Bachelor (HBO level) or Master (University)

Desired Knowledge / Experience

5+ years in equivalent function or system engineering (lead system engineer)

Behavioural Skills / Competencies

  • Able to manage a small team
  • Ability to oversee multiple activities (Helicopter view)
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, in Dutch and English
  • Able to operate in multidisciplinary project-team
  • Thinks and works in a structured way
  • Sets-up and works according to a planning

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Experienced System engineer
  • Relevant railway experience

o Railway standards

o Integration of electronics into existing rail vehicles

  • Interpret and review functional and technical documentation
  • Experience in planning engineering activities


  • ETCS (European Train Control System) on-board integration
  • Railway safety
  • Power electronics and traction systems
  • Hardware development (analogue and digital)
  • Software development
