The Opportunity:

The Manager, Grid Connection is a result-oriented strategic leader with engineering strengths and a large project management and team leadership experience.

The Grid Connection Manager is responsible to finalize the grid connection process for all the projects in execution, in order to guarantee the achievement of timeline, economics and quality objectives.

The projects are based on different renewable technologies (Wind, Solar, BESS), for a total up to 3 GW of new additional electrical power to be installed every year.

The managed risk by Grid Connection Managers refers to the delay of the finalization of 5 billion of dollars of projects per year.

During the execution of the projects the Grid Connection Manager coordinates a Team composed by about 25 multidisciplinary and multinational internal people. He interfaces directly with the Project Managers of any Transmission System Operator or Independent System Operator.

Remote candidates in the US will be considered. 



What You'll Do at Enel:

  • Manages the grid connection processes from the approved Projects’ Charter to the final handover to the relevant customers (Operation & Maintenance unit and financing partners);
  • Manages the preparation and the continuous update of a grid connection plan including time schedule, budget definition/contingencies allocation, procurement plan, communication, quality, stakeholder and risk management plan
  • manages deviations/changes to ensure the achievement of the assigned goals of the projects;
  • Coordinates all the E&C resources assigned to the project to ensure the achievement of all the grid connection targets of the different departments;
  • Manages the relationship with the main stakeholders (managers of TSO/ISO) to minimize conflicts and risks for the projects;
  • Reports to the EGP NA E&C Vice President and EGP Top Management about the status and progress of the grid connection process.
  • Manages auxiliary power connections to the projects with the goal of maintaining overall project schedule and minimizing operating costs for the projects.
  • Manages one or multiple direct reports.
    • Trains and mentors the direct reports in Enel business practices as well as interconnection processes.
    • Tasks direct reports and keeps them aligned with department and company goals.
    • Coaching and mentoring the assigned resources to promote the skills improvement and an adequate professional growth
    • Promotes the team working and the communication within the assigned project team
  • Fosters the continuous improvement with lesson’s learned and innovation ideas
  • Travels to projects’ site, TSO/ISO Offices

Breakdown of responsibilities:

  • Supports Business Development during all phases of the assessment of the opportunity (due diligence, feasibility study, investment memorandum, budget, risk matrix etc.) 10%
  • Coordinates the project initial Hand Over, about grid connection process, with the relevant Region/Country Business Development unit and the final Hand Over with the customer (usually the Operation & Maintenance department) 5%
  • Coordinates the project planning and schedule, about grid connection process, with the support of the Project Planning and Cost Control unit identifying and implementing any necessary corrective action 10%
  • Coordinates the project budget, about grid connection, with the support of the Project Planning and Cost Control unit identifying and implementing any necessary corrective action 5%
  • Manages the relationships with the Customers and Stakeholder (TSO/ISO) in agreement with other relevant units of Global Renewable Energies business line 10%
  • Leads the project team to achieve the project targets about grid connection process, and coordinate/attend the project meetings 30%
  • Coordinates the production of weekly/month project progress reports and inform the senior management on the grid connection projects status 15%
  • Manages the Project Closure and the Close Out Report with the relevant lesson learned about grid connection process 5%


Who You Are:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and ability to mentor, direct and delegate to project team
  • Ability to mentor peers and create avenues for knowledge sharing across teams
  • Practiced organizational skills with ability manage and implement procedural changes
  • Skilled in project management practices (PMI certification) and problem solving.
  • Skilled in cash flow, financial modeling, taxes, and managing budgets
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and cooperate effectively with multidisciplinary and multinational teams
  • Proficiency in languages other than English is a plus (preferably Italian or Spanish)
  • Aptitude in digitalization and innovation
  • Advanced Knowledge MS Office, Outlook, Excel, and MS Project
  • Regular driver’s license required
  • 35% travel both domestic and international


What You've Accomplished:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years Engineering and Construction experience in Power Generation, Renewable Energy, or Large Industrial Engineering and Construction facilities
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing grid connection processes of projects in renewable energy
  • Track record of successful grid connection processes of low complexity projects or portions of complex projects
  • Significant expertise in one or more renewable energy technologies and the aptitude to switch to between them (Wind, Solar, BESS).
  • Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance means, methods and programs.
  • Understanding of power plant construction means, methods and programs.
  • Knowledge of grid connection processes in USA
  • Knowledge of Electrical Distribution and Control Systems
  • Knowledge of Power Plant Operation
