Concept Development Consultant

We have a current opportunity for a Study Manager on a permanent basis at a consultancy. The position will be based in Surrey 3 days a week - 2 days a week from home.
- The candidate will take responsibility for managing screening, conceptual and pre-FEED studies for Energy Transition projects as well as upstream onshore and offshore Oil & Gas projects. A hands-on approach will be required to technically manage the work and lead the development of the study, interfacing closely with our clients.
- A proactive aptitude is essential, developing assumptions and solutions to efficiently make progress and add value to the project is fundamentally important to our working culture in Consultancy. The work will be carried out in accordance with our HSE, Quality and Business Management systems.
- Due to the varied scope, complexity and nature of Consultancy work, Concept Development Consultants must be flexible and be able to successfully manage multiple studies of different durations, and at times multiple teams. There is also a requirement to interface with third parties such as technology licensors, subsurface and wells.
- We support internal work, particularly for our Middle East based EPC and international New Energy Services business streams. Adding value to our multi-billion-dollar internal projects is just as important to us as undertaking work for external clients.
- Based in our Woking office, there will be opportunity for international business travel within this team.
Specific duties include:
- Supporting Consultancy Business Development, including networking and technical presentations to clients during the tender phase and preparing Consultancy Proposals (including technical execution methods, man-hour estimates and schedule development).
- Provide technical and commercial support, if required, to other Concept Development Consultants.
- Management of studies as described above to the highest standards and within agreed budgets. Identifying resource requirements, management of day to day work and regularly reporting progress to both client and Senior Management.
- Capable of managing/ directing engineers of all disciplines and specialist consultants.
- Working closely with our clients, many of whom spend considerable time within our offices, to produce bespoke and optimal solutions.
- Understanding and experience of capital cost estimates, both on a regional and plant level. Taking responsibility to review and endorse the estimate to the Project Sponsor.
- Understanding of construction requirements and the limitations that these could impose on option selection.
- Chairing progress meetings both internally and externally.
- Preparation of reports and presentation of results to clients.
- Taking full technical and commercial ownership of the work.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- The successful candidate will have a master's degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally with Chartered Engineer status.
- Exposure to, and knowledge of, energy transition technologies (such as wind, hydrogen, waste-to-value and CCUS) will be beneficial.
