Job Description:
Head of Wind Technology will be responsible for supervising and management of all (safety, environment, quality, electrical, mechanical, civil, community relationship, contractor coordination, others,) operation & maintenance activities performed on all wind power facilities of Enel Green Power South Africa in operation according local legislation, and O&M Objectives; will monitor all wind projects under construction, provide feedback to E&C to improve the new facilities according O&M point of view. Will prepare the HO process (from E&C to O&M), and structure the O&M team to start the operation process of new wind farms.
During the operation phase of the facilities, the Head of Wind Technology will close coordinate plant operation & maintenance activities with plant supervisors on site, service providers, utility and O&M group to achieve the best plant performance align with company objectives and goals.
Close coordination with head of O&M South Africa
Prepare different reports to inform O&M head office details about the wind farms behavior & performance.
 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
 

Develop and maintain a professional and good working environment at every facility.
Compliant with local legislation on every facility in terms of: Technical, legal, safety, Environment and O&M policies. 
Be proactive on implementing and insuring the effective application of safety procedures and keep communication with local safety department.
Participate on definition of plant objectives aligned with O&M and company tasks and policies.
Coordinate with plant supervisors supporting them to achieve the best plant results on safety, environment, cost, availability, production, housekeeping, order and good & professional working environment.
Review and implement plant maintenance programs, insure its application and follow up its results. 
Insure to have all needs at plant level regarding, services, materials, spare parts.
Together with plant supervisors manage plant service providers as such as to insure the effectiveness of the contracted service.  Provide them support in order to create a good relationship win – win.
Generate with plant supervisors proactive actions, reviewing plant needs, failure analysis, emergency action plans, define plant improvements and encourage plant people to be innovative on their duties.
Be aware of site people needs and define specific training programs for them
Prepare plant reports to inform O&M group about plant activities, results problems, needs, others.
Support sustainability department on their projects in connection with the communities (stakeholders) along the plant area.
 


OTHER DUTIES

Provide feedback based on lessons learned to the O&M team to improve plants performance, for use in other plants, or by contractors and vendor.
Encourage and support wind employees to growth from technical and personal point of view.
 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

In depth knowledge of wind industrial, power plant engineering, wind plant operation & maintenance, and environmental and safety requirements;
Knowledge and experience on MV/HV equipment
Proficiency in coordinate and monitoring contractors’ performance for O&M, safety, quality, environmental conformance, and schedule;
Knowledge of the energy market and the relationships with Eskom, and government institutions in connection with this sector.
Managing people with care and in best professional way;
Liaison skills with Internal & External stakeholders.
Microsoft word processing, spread sheet, excel, projects scheduling and AutoCAD software.
Excellent verbal, written, and analytical English skills;
Detailed individual with organizational skills to compile and track plants documentation, events, and conduct performance analysis;
Good personal work skills with due consideration for office protocol and expectations;
Valid Driver’s License.
 


REQUIREMENTS

B. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field accredited by South Africa Government;
At least 8 years’ experience in wind industry or similar technical role in Operation of wind farms.
Knowledge in the grid code of South Africa
Experience in the operation of HV/MV equipment & systems.
Complied with General Machinery Regulations.
Experience with international company will be considered as preferential;
Ability and willingness to travel up to 100% of time including temporary assignment;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Country Language;
Knowledge of Italian language will be considered a plus.

As wind industry the employee is required to perform some activities on heights over 100 mts.
