Morson Talent Lincolnshire Contractor

Job Title: Construction Project Manager,

Location: Immingham (Lincolnshire)

Duration: 2.5 years

Day rate: £700-750 per day

Our client is a UK-based power company, providing energy to the National Grid, they currently  have over 3GW of operational capacity in the UK with a further 600MW under construction. Their portfolio includes hydrogen and carbon capture projects to help lower emissions and develop a future for decarbonised, dispatchable and flexible generation in the UK. 

The Project Manager (electrical or mechanical discipline) will manage the delivery of the 275MW OCGT Project working with the wider project team in managing the Contractors (Balance of Plant & OEM Supply) that are delivering the project.  They will ensure that the construction activities are completed in a safe and efficient manner. The Project Manager will work closely with the project’s Owner’s Engineer in order to ensure that the Contractors are complying with the Contract.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the project is delivered safely as per the company HSES policies.
  • Managing engineering design for the EPC project;
  • Overall delivery of the project as per the agreed programme ensuring the project is delivered to the requirements stipulated within the contract;
  • Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of project status and cost reports;
  • Assist in the development of the project schedules with focus on delivery;
  • Accountable for the project change processes ensuring all scope change is identified, recorded, communicated, and approved prior to work commencing;
  • Lead and participate in project design reviews including risk workshops. Owning the risk process;
  • Ensuring compliance with codes and regulatory requirements;
  • Contractor relationship management ensuring a collaborative working environment;
  • Champion continuous improvements working alongside other site, business departments and partners on agreed actions. Seeking out efficiencies, simplification, and standardisation in project management;
  • Leading the efficient and timely resolution of design and construction technical queries in line with contractual obligations;
  • Working with project team members to ensure effective communication of information;
  • Interacting with the O&M team to ensure that construction activities, including those that impact the operational station are delivered in line with project needs;
  • Working with the Project Planner to ensure trackers are up-to-date and ready for presentation to senior management;
  • Ensuring the project commissioning and handover process is structured, well organised and implemented in a safe manner

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience in delivering power generation projects is preferred but not mandatory;
  • Understanding and managing the construction and commissioning of gas pipelines and interaction with power plant projects;
  • Understanding and managing the construction and commissioning of High Voltage electrical connections and interaction with existing live power plant projects and DNOs;
  • Experience in managing the review of detailed engineering deliverables and their interaction with other packages of work and systems
  • Experience of resolving technical issues which involve several different of stakeholders and contracts
  • Solid understanding of commercial management (FIDIC), including technical and contract change
  • Experience of managing the delivery of work packages/projects including management of contractors and consultants
  • Excellent understanding of engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply them to real world situations
  • Experience of working with operational power plants, permit to work and management of change procedures
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent in engineering discipline
  • Industry recognised project management qualifications
  • Membership of a relevant professional body or equivalent
