OVERVIEW:
The Senior Electrical Engineer position will be involved in the design and engineering of complex standard and non-standard distribution and transmission substations. This position will serve as an advanced level resource and should be able to work both independently and in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in the electrical design and construction of substation and renewable projects working with both utility and primary service customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure that electrical transmission, distribution, and renewable facilities are designed and engineered to meet customer requirements, industry standards, and safety requirements.
Lead engineering and design activities for medium/high voltage substations, switchyards, distribution, and transmission systems.
Develop new and improve existing standards, templates, procedures, and guidelines to support continuous improvement within the department in support of the Quality Management System (QMS).
Provide direction, consultation, and support for internal and external customers on various projects.
Have knowledge of power studies as it relates to protection, load, and related studies.
Develop single-line, three-line, schematic, wiring, general arrangement, and layout drawings for medium/high voltage systems and equipment.
Prepare relay settings, coordination studies, load flow analysis, ground grid studies, and arc flash reports.
Prepare electrical equipment specifications and evaluate electrical equipment submittals per customer requirements and applicable standards.
Develop project bill of materials (BOM).
Provide support to field team members during construction of facilities.
Review potential new projects and assist with scheduling, budgeting, and scoping.
Perform in-process quality verification checks in accordance with the QMS.
Mentor, train, and oversee the work of lower-level team members.
Maintain a current knowledge of industry practices, standards, and procedures of electrical power design, construction, materials, and equipment through contact with industry peers, professional journals and articles, professional memberships, and contact with suppliers for evaluation of new products.
Provide leadership to Power team and assist with completing projects on schedule and budget.
Oversee technical merits of projects from start to finish.
Manage subcontractors and assist internal team members to ensure successful completion of projects.
Assist with product development and troubleshooting.
Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIROMENT:
This position will work in the office for the majority of the time, performing field visits as required. The office is an open and collaborative environment where work if performed both independently and with the team. When on-site, work is performed in construction environments including building construction, industrial plants, utility scale PV solar plants, other renewable energy plants and substations 12kV through 230kV. While on-site you will spend significant time working independently, often in fairly remote rural locations, possibly in extreme weather conditions.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports directly to the Power Division Director.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years experience in substation engineering and/or electrical design and construction of renewable, medium, and high voltage power systems.
ABET accredited BS degree in Engineering is required, preferably in the electrical power discipline.
Registered Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one US state with the ability to obtain PE licenses in other states.
Knowledge of principles, procedure, and practices related to substation and renewable design, distribution system design, construction, operation, and relay protection.
Advanced knowledge of power engineering concepts including circuit analysis, electrical equipment design, short circuit calculations, grounding, and protective relaying.
Experience developing drawings in AutoCAD.
Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, utility, and local codes and standards.
Ability to evaluate and resolve complex technical issues, monitor and manage projects, and establish and maintain working relationships both internally and externally.
ETAP/SKM knowledge and/or experience performing arc flash, short circuit analysis, relay coordination studies, and conductor sizing.
Knowledge and design experience in battery storage, solar, and microgrids.
Knowledge and/or experience on renewable energy projects.
Relay settings experience a plus.
Knowledge and/or experience with PVSyst, SAM, and/ or Homer software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasionally required to sit for long and short periods of time.
Regularly required to talk in order to communicate detailed, important, and accurate instructions to internal and external customers.
Regularly required to walk for long and short distances.
Frequently required to stand for long and short periods of time.
Occasionally required to bend or twist at the neck and torso.
Occasionally required to crouching, squatting, stooping, kneeling.
Occasionally required to reach forward, grab, grasp, pinching, handle material and tools using upper extremities.
Required to have visual acuity with or without correction to inspect products before and after installation.
Constantly required to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to hear detailed information and distinguish sounds to avoid hazards.
