Reports to: The position will report to the Sr. Director of Renewable Business Development located in Minneapolis.
The Director, Business Development will be responsible for leading a team in wind, solar and storage site development and project acquisition efforts, establishing site control and community relations, conducting due diligence on potential acquisition, permitting project sites and negotiating tax agreements. This position would be responsible for ERCOT and southern SPP. This position would be located in Texas preferably in Austin or Houston with considerable travel required. The position will have one direct report. The position will report to the Sr. Director of Renewable Business Development located in Minneapolis.
•Demonstrate leadership and the ability to coordinate project teams consisting of sales and marketing, construction and engineering, estimating, legal, policy, meteorology and finance.
Skills and Requirements
•Manage and lead team of professionals in prospecting for new sites and/or progressing existing development projects, managing site acquisition, coordinate resource assessment, interconnection and permitting processes with support from many groups.
•Identification of renewable energy and related business opportunities which includes maintaining active communication with others in the power generation business and, at times, conducting ongoing research to determine market dynamics.
•Assist in negotiation of project/asset ownership terms and conditions and project-related agreements both for greenfield as well as development-related acquisitions.
•Management and coordination of certain regulatory permitting required for projects in coordination with other business groups.
•Making of application to agencies; representing Company's position in hearings and workshops; selecting and managing consultants; and providing documentation for siting, land use, and associated permits.
•Responsible for presenting the projects for internal investment approvals.
•Develop and implement regional development strategies in coordination with Origination and Market Structure teams.
•Manage and coordinate activities within the Company and with outside consultants to ensure due diligence are fully implemented.
•Preparation of milestone schedules and budgets on projects for management approval.
•Compile reports to management and make recommendations for course of action.
•Coordinate regional strategies and be responsible for presenting investment opportunities to Avangrid senior management.
•In conjunction with other departments, determine project economics and technical characteristics.
•Additionally, will monitor the ongoing effective operation of internal controls and anti-fraud processes.
- Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years’ experience in renewable energy project development (the company may consider candidates with less experience at a lower level). Need to have demonstrated experience from project concept to project construction in renewables.
- Proven experience managing others and/or leading teams
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
- Proven experience in contract negotiation. Substantial domestic and travel required.
- Working knowledge of Windows based business software applications, including Word and Excel.
- MBA, Law Degree or other advanced degree in engineering or related field.
