The energy industry in Iran
Although oil and gas production in Iran has recently fallen, Iran still ranks as the 9th largest oil producer in the world. The country is also home to 3 of the largest oil fields in the world; Ahvaz Field, Gachsaran Field and Aghajari Field. However, US sanctions and regional disputes have impacted their production levels somewhat in recent years but with $500 billions of investment in the oil sector planned by the government before 2025, there is a strong push for the country to maintain its’ role as an energy superpower. In addition to oil, Iran has the 2nd largest gas reserves in the world and it is considered one of the most hydrocarbon-rich areas in the world.
