The energy industry in Indonesia
Indonesia is the 3rd largest oil producer in Asia and is a former member of OPEC, having left in 2016. The country’s oil production is dominated by two companies, PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, who produce 40% of the country’s oil and the state-owned company, PT Pertamina, who produce 25%. The country also plays a significant role in the mining industry, particularly when it comes to exporting thermal coal. When it comes to renewable energy, Indonesia has vast potential due to the conditions within the country but they are only just starting to investigate how they can make use of this.
