The energy industry in Australia
Australia is a leading player in the mining industry with over 5% of the country's GDP coming from the industry. The country accounts for 35% of the international coal trade and worlds’ largest exporter of iron, ore, lead, diamonds, zinc and zirconium to name a few. It is also a major distributor of both gold and uranium. Mining takes place across the country but regions known for mining include parts of New South Wales, Wester Australia, Queensland and Victoria. The country is also home to major mines such as the Olympic Dam and Super Pit Gold Mine. It’s currently estimated that the sector employs 130,000 people in Australia. In addition to mining, Australia also produces oil and is the 31st largest producer globally. The energy Industry is based in the eastern and southern states with the Queensland offering the best deposits.
